Anyone catch Solo Boxeo last weekend?

It featured Puerto Rican rising star Felix Verdejo - who might be exposed even sooner than Benavidez.

He was given serious problems by gritty southpaw Guillermo Delgadillo (who entered with a .500 record) despite getting off to a nice start and ultimately pitching a three-card shutout. Delgadillo was decked in the first but held on and dug his spurs in, making Verdejo constantly trot on the balls of his feet, never able to plant himself and really throw with any more bad intentions, while occasionally catching him with straight lefts and right hooks that rocked Verdejo and badly affected his balance, leading to a couple of near-knockdowns. Delgadillo got so bold pressing the attack that he chased Verdejo into a corner lunging with a left cross and was dropped by a counter left hook in the sixth. Verdejo couldn't finish him, despite throwing all but the kitchen sink in a wild attempt with more than a minute left. Even until the very end, Delgadillo traded freely with him and brazenly got in the last word landing a flush right hook on Verdejo's jaw at the final bell.

This is only the second time Verdejo has gone the distance since his debut. Incidentally, Delgadillo is also the first opponent since his debut that didn't sport a losing record.

Verdejo has been generating excitement since last year's Games in London, and has looked impressive blowing over cans, but as he steps up in class he will need to settle down and work on a few things (balance, sitting on his punches, watching his periphery while moving) if he wants to keep his KO rate up - or avoid becoming a statistic for someone else. If he does get KTFO, my money is on it being a southpaw. Given how very uncomfortable Delgadillo made him look, a significantly better lefty - a Russell, or Miura...or even a Farenas or Jandaeng - could lay him out.

I don't see anything at all there to be concerned about. His opponent was obviously tough and better than his record suggests, and came to win. Verdejo stayed disciplined and made very few mistakes, he showed good pop and I thought his balance was exceptional. He almost went down off a counter right hook but the fact he regained his balance despite being caught in a bad position is testament to how gifted he is in that regard imo.

Good point but if anyone does execute it you'll just look like a fool if you claim that you had come up with the idea long before.

Btw I always thought that if anyone could counter Floyds pull counter they could really get him in a bit of trouble. Would take an awesome talent and some freaky reflexes to get anywhere near pulling it off though.
