Basically I think some of these fellows might fullfil their potential much better today than they actually did.

Carnera would be called Ty Fields in the modern era.

All of them stand a better chance.

It only took you so far if you was a giant. The bigger they are the harder they fall. That’s what they used to say then.

Giants eventually ran out of puff against better fighters. it was harder for them to utilise their extra weight and strength when they were kept off balance and made to reach against faster men with smaller gloves.

Now a giant can smother the sting out of blows by shielding himself behind a wall of leather and walk small guys down. They couldn’t do this with old time gloves. But they can now.

Interval training allows for short explosive bursts of activity. This suits big men today.

I believe if you put all these changes to boxing back into the 1920s and Willard could have kept the title until Primo came along.

Primo Carnera was one of the biggest genetic freaks athleticism and strength wise, and you want to compare him to a pub fighting bum? Really?

Carnera, with proper boxing training, could give a good account of himself in today's era

E'yep. Don't tell anyone, but Max hit harder. Smaller guys aren't allowed to hit harder than SHWs, aka gods among us mere mortals, so keep it a secret

He lacked fast twitch snap, functional athletic balance and most important fighting instinct. His parts rarely congealed to a whole. At his best, he would be an undersized Valuev. But that takes a lot of effort for me to even imagine that.

More like Valuev in Joshua's body, provided Carnera gets the weight training, diet and PEDs he didn't have in his career of being bummed around by the mafia

Combined with proper actual boxing training and all the fast twitch snap wouldn't matter when faced with a 270 shredded 6'6" monster with a huge heart and will to win

    Yeah, not really.

He didn't really demonstrate elite athleticism. A pusher and a plodder, a Clydesdale not a thoroughbred. Give me an athlete any day.

A muscle development that would make a Greek god angry, literally used to be a professional circus strongman, and incredible flexibility that not many can obtain at that level of muscularity.

    No athleticism, ok

If athleticism is only about the masculine aesthetic, I guess he's your guy.

Let me know when you want to discuss boxing.

When you consider athleticism as more than your 40 yard dash and include stamina, flexibility, etc. Let me know so that I can have a serious discussion about it.

As ludicrously entertaining as the rest of your post is, the contention that Willard holds the title into his 50' s deserves applause for being Peak Classic. Bravo!

Well, I do consider it more than jocksniffing over pump and striations.

Carnera was a model, not an athlete. Let's be real.
