Nelson said in Boxing News the week after Haye-Harrison that he felt the PPV was value for money because of the programme and hype etc. - make of that what you choose. I tell you what Nelson tried once on Ringside which I would liked to have seen more of - is his roleplay of fight tactics with Vladimir - that is the kind of stuff he should be doing more and it would put his experience as an ex-boxer to better use. But, too often I find his punditry as loaded with sky partyline and trying to make out a one-sided fight is going to be competitive or close.
Sky would be happy with the results of this poll. Sky don't give a **** what we think, we are already boxing fans, we are a tiny minority of those who buy PPV events. It is the ignorant casual fan who is open to maipulation that Sky are after, because that is who pays the bills for them. Sad but true. Buncey's boxing hour appealed to real boxing fans with knowledge of the game. Ringside tells the casual fan everything Sky wants them to know in order to get them interested enough to watch their product. The boxing hour aimed to inform like a news programme. Ringside is an hour long promotional advert for Sky boxing.
Not a fan of either. Both pretend/pretended that the huge blight on the sport - the alphabets and their politics don't exist by simply ignoring them. No other sport would turn a blind eye to such an issue. That said at least Bunce's Boxing Hour didn't discriminate because a boxer was tied to a rival channel.
Boxing hour - I made sure I saw that every week. Im grateful for Ringside but unless something is being covered by Sky it doesnt get a mention. Boxing Hour took an interest in all fights.
Both could be much better, but the BBH was a level above. I appreciate Sky giving us a boxing mag show, but i don't think they're getting the best out of it. especially for the resources they have. The format needs to change, there needs to be more different segments and fight action/highlights. The more we see and hear of Smith and Nelson the worse it gets.
Boxing Hour hands down. Ringside is a good show but as mentioned it does seem a bit scripted, Nelson still looks a bit stiff in front of the camera and it's basically an advert for Sky's boxing coverage. Boxing Hour used to have good, incisive interviews and looked ahead to fights that could possibly happen, and there was a fair element of overseas stuff too. That's where Sky let themselves down, the company line is ''what a fight that might be in a couple of years'', and they just ignore any fight that isn't aired by them. Ed Robinson could be used much better in my opinion also. Boxing Hour was a work in progress, Steve and Andy got on here and asked for opinions, criticism and suchlike. The Sky people don't seem as inclined to do so, they're more interested in packaging the thing to appeal to the mainstream.
big daddy bunce is the master of real boxing--happy with ringside though, happy for anything boxing to be on my t.v:good
What other show ever would have Frank Maloney calling Manny Stewart a mercenary ***** one week, saying Brian Peters knew nothing about boxing the next and calling somebody else a twat the week after that. All at 2pm on a Thursday. It was a genius show, so long as Don King or Chris Eubank weren't on hogging up all the air time.
Adam Smith said in last months BM that he wanted Ringside to be unmissable like Bunceys boxing hour.....well get rid of himself and the stiff Nelson and get Buncey in and it will be.
Apologies if you've heard this already but Buncey had a good old rant about Ringside on this month's podcast: Listen to it here: http://news.williamhill.com/a/boxing/bunceys-boxing-podcast-thu-dec-30th/ Download by right clicking or search for it on iTunes by typing in William Hill Boxing
