I have heard this for years now. I know Camarelle in the olympics blew him out of there but does that mean he has a bad chin? Why do they say he has a bad chin? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leVi4A7OvNY[/ame] He took that pretty well.
He doesn't, necessarily. A lot of people get sparked in the amateurs and things change in the pros, Tua, Bute etc to name two recent examples. I think its just a gut feeling, he's a pea headed beanpole, to put it simply, combined with the amateur stuff. But based on evidence in the pro ranks, you can't really say anything because he ain't been hit off anyone thats got a dig.
That's just it he's not been whacked clean off anyone in the pro's. Which show's he's got good skills but also keeps the question open about his chin.
Being stopped and rocked multiple times in the amateurs. People do sometimes become better in the pro ranks and the classic example is Tua. But Tua was stopped in one amateur bout, not several and he was very young and not fully developed. Price was getting dropped, rocked and stopped (no rapping intended) as a man in his mid 20s. It didn't look like he was a totally different shape or anything to who he is now, but who knows, maybe it has improved. Khans chin clearly improved and if Price is heavier now and more filled out then it could have got better. But it was definitely shaky as an amateur.
Tua was dropped by Savon no less, a better amateur than even Cammarelle (and much harder puncher) I'd compare Price more to Larry Holmes. Question is will he have the resilience to pull himself through the hard times as Larry did in the pro's?
As a teenager. Price was getting stopped as a man. He has a whiff of John Tate about him. And Tate was younger than Pricey too. If he can maximise his advantages and keep his hands up, no reason it should be more of a factor than anyone else getting a bit smack upside the head at Heavyweight.
In the 2006 commonwealth games, an Indian boxer was knocking him down multiple times until the boxer tired out and Price got lucky to stop him.
Can't say I'm overly impressed with Prices defense and his movement moving backwards seems a bit awkward. He does this thing were he sinks his head down into his shoulders as a defense mechanism but that won't help him against taller men. His power looks immense so far. I'm looking forward to when he steps up to Euro level. Looks clearly better than Fury now
Wladimir Klitschko is the best heavyweight on the planet yet as we all know, he's partial to a chicken dance when hit on the chin. Granted, that's with ten ounce gloves on and it's not the ams, but he was getting demolished by average heavyweights earlier in his career. The point is that he's living proof that not having a great chin doesn't mean you cant be a dominant world champion. Price may be similar, but we don't know yet because he's hardly been touched as pro yet which is testament to his ability. Price's chin will be tested soon enough but Sexton didn't lay a glove on him last night and if he keeps jabbing like that, it'll be hard for most to get near him. :good
