You started the exact same thread a month ago. He fought the biggest punchers at 175 and 1 of the best technical punchers ever in Toney. But this pointed out last month, you're either senile or a troll which is it?
Trinidad is a former welterweight who was shot when he fought roy jones. Sosa tarver, hall? ok but certainly not a nigel benn, gerald mcclellan. Hall and sosa were not world beaters, and I have never thought highly of antonio big mouth tarver. If thats the best you can come up with, perhaps I am right about roy jones not facing top punchers.
I am a big fan of Roy Jones, h2h he rates # 1 168lber of all time, and h2h ranks in my top 5 160lbers of all time. But accomplishments wise, it seems he leaves alot to be desired. Never took on some of the best 168lbers of his era(outside of his awesome toney win) and never took on DM in what was a very important unification fight.
For all I can't be bothered with your bull**** a lot of the time, that is a pretty fair post. You probably overate him at 160 though!
You know how the old saying goes........A man who asks is a fool for five minutes. A man who never asks is a fool for life
In my opinion, Jones did not opt to risk much. This is a pity. At one point, Roy Jones was boxing's best pound for pound fighter, yet on the other hand he acted like a pound for pound businessman. IMO, Jones was vulnerable to a hard to stop swarmer or a big puncher. While Jones would always have a skill and speed edge, his style and body language to me was that of a fighter with a suspect chin. This was proven true once Jones began to be hit. Tarver Ko’d Jones with one punch, and Johnson left Jones in a prone position that made me worry about a ring tragedy. While I would favor Jones over Julian Jackson ( who was a huge puncher ) but that fight never happened. Another fight that could have been good was Jones vs McCallum in the very early 1990's. But as it was Jones waited until 1996 when McCallum was 39 going on 40 and had little left. The Virgil Hill fight could have happened in the early to mid 1990's when Hill was at his best and the WBA champ. Once again, Jones waited until Hill was nearly 35, and then gave him a shot. Notice a pattern here? Also no fight with DM. Jones could afford to be brash and possibly break the rules ( steroids ) because he was the golden goose. Boxing commissions who wanted sanction fees and PPV and cable networks were more than willing to accomiodate him. Having said that, I still believe Jones is a top ATG top ten great at light heavyweight.
