What rationale is there to rate Dempsey higher than Marciano?

    Here's how I see it:

    Power: Slight edge to

, just because he tends to hurt guys a bit more when he lands a good one, while Rocky tends to wear guys down through attrition.

    Hand and Foot speed:

by a wide margin. Speed is very important in boxing.

Height, Reach, Tale of the tape :

    by a wide margin. 6'1 1/2" vs 5'10" 1/2. 77" reach vs a 67" reach.

    Stamina:

, though an in shape Dempsey could go a fast 15.

    Chin: I'll call this one

. No, I'll switch it up to give

the benefit of the doubt here to be viewed as objective from Rocky's fans. Dempsey’s chin was tested by harder shots by bigger punchers, but also went down more often than Rocky did. Who is better, the man who took harder shots, or the man who went down less. Hard to say. I think chins are best tested when they are hit by bombs.

    Adaptability in the ring:

. Dempsey could box, brawl, or slug and win rounds this way. Marciano was not a good boxer in the center of the ring.

    Skill on Offense:

wins here. He missed far less, and could string together combinations. Dempsey could in fight or out fight. Marciano was mostly an in-fighter. Both could hit the body well.

    Skill on Defense:

seemed to have a better defense, because he moved better and was more agile.

Heart: Both fighters had a lot of heart. I think

s might have been a bit better.

Ring Generalship / Smarts: Hard to say who was the smarter fighter. I do think

fought a bit smarter and used what he had to greater effect. Give this one to Rocky by an edge. He seemed to have a better plan and put himself in better position to win.

Quality of Competition: I think if we look at their entire career,

fought better fighters overall by a small margin. Dempsey work pre-title is impressive, and he fought more prime versions of his best opponents in general.

/Qyuestion to CRHIS: Did Marciano ever faced a big hitter that weighed over 210 pounds

And you claim I know nothing. Charles is a step up in boxing evolution in comparison to Tunny, who was by my accounts, awful.

    Charles KO 1 Gene Tunney.

I have plenty of knowledge of the sports history, you do also, you just don't know how to put it into context because your observational skills are about at a little over zero.

Not a fan of Janitor, but at the very least, he provides his own incorrect opinion from researched observation, despite how horribly insulting to my intelligence it is.

You need to also understand that proper grammar is best for a debate, mate.

Please. Joe Calzaghe is an evolved specimen, Tunny and his arm punching, total lack of effective timing, flawed footwork, slow speed and no defence are going to allow Tunney to last....

    All of a round.

Calzaghe TKO 1, slap stoppage on the ropes, 1 second premature.

I'd pick Tunney to beat Calzaghe.

Be another beautiful fight though. Loads of cracking matches croping up this week.

Calzaghe only loses to Roy Jones Jr, Bob Foster, Michael Spinks and Michael Moorer between the 168-175 crop.

I picked 4 guys over Calzaghe, I am fair. Tunney and his nonsense aura of invincibility because he outboxed that unskilled joke known as Jack Dempsey does not deserve to be picked over Joe Calzaghe.

Greb, another unevolved caveman boxer, ****ed Tunney up.

Calzaghe TKO 1 Greb, Calzaghe TKO 1 Tunney, Calzaghe UD Jesus.

IMO you can´t rate Dempsey higher than Marciano, Rocky beat the better fighters, he has a better KO-%, he never lost a fight, he was in his prime hard to beat, Dempsey on the other side has some losses who hurt his legacy...

Yeppers. Even when being free of the revolutionary Amsterdamic boxing logic, Dempsey's insanely overrated.
