Last night wasn’t great, but It’s the best the poor division has to offer. Ortiz is a clear cut top10 HW, same tier as Povetkin, Pulev and Parker(not counting Whyte as he should be suspended for a long time).

Wilder was up against a superior boxer and did what he needed to do. Wilder cherrypicked a lot, and a good amount of his career was a joke. But if he fights Fury next(a guy who proved he’s more than capable of Wilder) 3 months after the Ortiz fight(where he ate a lot of hard leather), you’ll have to be a blind hater to claim he’s still a cherrypicker and is still protected.

I think Tyson give Wilder all kinds of problems. That is if Tyson can get inside. And Tyson was great at that in his prime

Wilder's tall frame and long limbs help him generate tremendous power. Inside though, with Tysons figuting at bad breath distance, those long limbs just get in the way.

Now...is there anyone out there today who can get inside and make it a fight in a phone booth?

Figuting a guy like Wilder, the natural tendency is to stay away. Outside. Wilder is clumsy enough that you can almost get away with it.

The key may be to get inside and stay inside. Smother his power and put the hurt on his ribs and liver.

Tyson I believe could have done.it. inside fighting seems kind of a lost art though. Its grueling and painful. But so is letting Wilder tee off on you from 5 feet away.

I'm talking Mike Tyson, not Tyson Furry.

You realize Ortiz never won anything in the PROS?
Ruiz is currently holding 3 belts. He's levels above Ortiz and 15 years younger to boot.

Ortiz is more skilled than Frank was, Bruno never fought a highly skilled southpaw.

Getting that disgusting draw against Fury has helped him resume wise but look at the caveats - Ortiz had to be old and look like **** to get his shots and Fury had to come off the couch and say he was just there to pick up a cheque to get that fight. He's now in a position wherein he HAS to fight Fury despite any reservations he and his team might have.

He could of picked up fights against the likes of Whyte, Parker, Ruiz etc. over the past few years and put his protected past behind him but he chose not to.

It seems so obvious. Someone will try it sooner or later surely.

Ortiz didn’t look any worse against his previous opponents before Wilder than Whyte did against Dave Allen, Helenius or Parker looked against Razvan Cojanu or Carlos Takam(same level opponent as Jennings). So Ortiz was just as dangerous as the other two, and Ruiz wasn’t relevant until Miller popped and AJ needed a new opponent. (In fact, before the AJ fight, Ruiz’s biggest claim to fame was his losing efforts to Parker and struggling against the corpses of Liakhiovich and King Pin)

He fought Fury, maybe because Fury didn’t seem to be ready. He proved otherwise. Proved that he was ready enough to beat Wilder and to be a MUCH credible challenger than the likes of Whyte or Parker. And yet Wilder wanted an immadiate rematch, only for Fury to walk away from it to have a couple of easy tune ups with TopRank. Wilder still wants the rematch, even though he does NOT have. He could just make the network excuse and say “he’s on the wrong end of the street”, just like Spence is doing to avoid Crawford.

So yes, you do have to be a blind hater to claim he’s still protected if goes through with the rematch.

what a joker. A prime Ortiz went 7 rounds with Dave Allen before a premature stoppage. He’s overrated

    I don't agree.

Parker and Whyte have achieved far more in the division than Jennings ever did and have been more impressive in more recent performances.

There was a delay in the Fury rematch being agreed in which ESPN pounced and Fury took the massive offer made to him. That's not Wilder's fault but having just been jobbed I see why Fury would want to secure the his bag ahead of a rematch more than likely to be in America and see more dodgy judging.

Anyway, it looks like the fight is about to happen unless Ruiz beats Joshua again and then that will be his priority. If Joshua wins, less so methinks.
