A friend of mine, I won't say his name but he posts here, says Sweet Pea battered Hector Camacho, World Champion at the time-- in a sparring session at a time before Pea turned pro while I and two others had noticed another report claiming just the opposite, that Hector mangled Pernell some time after he turned professional-around the summer of 85 if I remember correctly. I shudder to think of how many magazines I would have to sift thru to find this article so I wuz wondering: Are there any other historians who would know what really happend in the gym. This is an important issue and is on the verge of beginning a raging debate. One other thing I wish to know. Did Pernell have his pro debut at the garden on Hagler-Hamsho two?
Yeah, i was there. It was a closed session but i nabbed an invitation and cruised on down. I could tell straight away by the hungry look on the Pea's face that Hector was in a world of trouble. I won quite a bit of money on this session actually, they were running bets so i jumped on Whitaker. Hector got frustrated right away when confronted with speed approaching his own and got angry quick, and sloppy. Pea jabbed the **** out of him and it actually looked like boxer vs slugger the last two rounds as Pea got Hector right out of his game. Pea got a couple of decent lefts in late in the third stanza and Hector threw his arms in the air and said he'd done enough work for one day and didn't feel real well. :good
I would have never thought we would have someone who watched it actually. Do you remember what day exactly ?
