Well, from the above posts I have to change my whole view on the fight. Now I think Oscar had been pressured by the Skull and Bones society to take a fall so that Hopkins (being that he's a Yale graduate and descended from the royalty of Britain) could take the championship that was his birthright for several centuries and go on behind the scenes to fabricate the war in Iraq.:huh
Oscar couldn't get his face messed up because he had to be in Russia to help escalate the Chechnya conflict.

    Conspiracy!:deal

Oscar betrayed his legions of fans! He should have grabbed the ropes and pulled himself up, holding himself there while Hopkins pummeled his face for the rest of the fight. That would be honorable.

    That's what happened.

That's all just childish speculation fueled by jealousy. Ignore it.

The main proponent of that piece of mythology is that oscarsexual extrordinaire, JackPresscott.

(He would love nothing more than to sniff Oscar's jock, and that fantasy would be greatly enhanced if Oscar had crapped on it, hence Jack's story).

Oscar began boxing and winning belts at 130 and 135.
Bernard began at 175, and has since returned there.
(He's even contemplated fighting for a heavyweight title).

IMO, when Delahoya took the fight, he figured that Hopkins has to get old sometime, and maybe he would get lucky.

He would always be the underdog in that match-up.

He did well for eight rounds, keeping the fight about even.

    Could he have gotten up?

Probably, if there was a few seconds left in the fight (or even the round).

But could he have been competitive ?

    Probably not.

If he'd gotten up, the end was just around the corner.

He was up against too big of a guy.

Same shot that Gatti destroyed Dorin with, Ward destroyed most of his opponents with, same shot that had me pissing blood for two weeks! Any other reason is pure BS. DLH has 9" fist, 13 3/4" bicep, 15 1/2" neck, 7" wrist and btw, is 5" 11" tall. Hopkins has 12"fist, 13" bicep, 15" neck, 6" wrist and is 6"2" tall. Some said in another post that Hopkins towered over him. BS.
P.S. Calzaghe is 6' tall with 12" fist, 12 1/2" bicep, 16 1/2" neck, 7 ' wrist and is 36 f***kin' years old. Some here still say DLH would be destroyed by Joe????? Crackheads?

I've been on here a while and I've never, ever heard Oscar and Joe discussed as a possible matchup.

Could you be thinking of a different site ?

He was not outclassed. I had the fight 4-4 foing into the 9th. DLH was fighting very smart, but the much bigger stronger fighter won. Plain and simple.

In terms of skill, Oscar proved he was equal with hopkins, but the size difference was too much. Hopkins towered over DLH.

ODLH did well in the early goings of the fight but Hopkins was coming on strnog and starting to dominate.

imo Oscar probably could have gotten up from that shot if he really wanted to but he would still have gotten knocked out eventually.

Oscar was already on the downhill in that fight anyways. More promoter than boxer.

You mean like DLH towered over Mayweather Jr.????:D

Take a good look my friend, the size difference between DLH and Mayweather was much bigger than that of Hopkins-DLH!:hey :yep
