What Ricky Hatton Biggest Mistake?

Ballooning up and down in weight inbetween fights.

 

His weight between fights for sure it all caught up with him in the end and he left it all in the gym shedding the weight . You can only go to the well so many times , and splitting with Billy Graham was plain stupid and money motivated as the court case proved to us all . Just as Naz did 10 years earlier if you want to predict the future look at the past . You don't split a winning team

Not fighting Witter, Cotto or de la Hoya (before Pacquiao did)

Other than that I don't think he can really have many regrets

 

Not retiring after after Mayweather fight. I'm always a fan of people going out on top and for Ricky, after being beaten by Floyd so convincingly he'd finally reached his level. His style always ment he wasn't going too fight until his late 30's. He had achieved all he could in boxing and would of walked away with his head held high. At the end of the day Hatton is a british boxing legend regardless of everything else thats gone on.

 

He's an overachiever not an underachiever. His career was the best it possibly could have been and the risk-reward perfectly managed. He'd never beat Pacman or Mayweather in a million years. Maybe if he didn't sign to fight Pacquiao he could have gone after Barrera or maybe Marquez, I think Marquez would beat him too though, MAB would probably be too small, maybe he could have got Hamed to come out of retirement

From a business perspective he really should have tried to jump on a Delahoya fight after Mayweather-DLH 2 collapsed. He would have made allot of money with that fight

 

Shít fight. Khan beat Barrera at lightweight before Hatton lost to Manny.

 

Coming into every training camp needing to shift weight which preventing his time being used to develop his boxing skills.

 

Making shitloads of money and being very succsessfull/popular.

 

DLH/Hatton was a bolted-on done deal for the summer of 09, DLH just had to fill in the HBO date left begging after Mayweather bugged out, so he cherry picked a midgit much to the disgust of the boxing world in general & what a disaster that turned out to be for all members & affiliates of the GBP in-house cosy club

 

Drinking Guinness.....Its a meal in a glass that **** and well he had enough glasses of the stuff!.....Should have stuck to the spirits Ricky, at least you get pissed quicker by drinking less, and you dont get bloated to bits full of gas, then when you wake up the next day you dont wanna drink for a week, never mind the next night!!!

 

Being born 20 years too late!

He would of been a National Mainstream star if his peak was pre mid 1990s, but instead he was merely the first British boxing star SKY created, and was to a point regionalized to the North, as us Southerners rarely got to see him fight South of Manchester...

Id say he was a national mainstream star. everyone knew who he was, refular appearances on TV. Haye, Hatton and Khan are the only genuine stars since the retirement of LL and Naz, I think.
