Cotto is really hard to finish off when hurt though and he knows how to back off, throw/hold..etc and buy time. Margarito will need more than that to trouble Cotto or else he'll keep trying and trying and end up being outboxed/outscored with no time left to make up for it. This could be tough though since we both know Cotto will exchange sooner or later during the fight and how will Margarito react to Cotto's body and head shots needs to be thought about as well. If Margarito lands and hurt Cotto early then Cotto is going through hell.
Not to mention Cotto has showed excellent recovery when hurt. I am still having a difficult time making a pick I am comfortable with. 2 guys I like, 2 guys I can see winning. :think
This content is protected Is this what you're talking about? Because it most definitely looks like Miguel was ready to go there. Based on what? Other than Kermit Cintron in their rematch, I can't recall Marg ever putting a fighter out for the count. All of his stoppages come via referee/corner stoppage, or fighters quitting on their stool. Matter of fact, I can't even recall a genuine one punch knockdown from Marg in his last 10 or 11 fights. When I think of "fight ending power," cats like David Haye or Edison Miranda come to mind, not Margarito. Or are you saying because Marg stopped Kermit to the body, he has that kind of power. If that's the case, then I guess Gerry Penalosa has fight ending power too.
atsch Half a dozen posts and some at that point, almost half of which by the thread starter and the other half by posters denigrating the seminal post and we would already have a "consensus". Some Margarito nuthuggers are pushing stupidity to new levels. :-(
I didn't say one punch power. I said fight ending power. He can hurt Cotto if he lands even one flush uppercut or one flush body shot. And he can stop Cotto by following up with a series of hard shots after that. The Cintron knockout was a legitimate one punch stoppage. It wasn't a series of punches. It was one hard body shot that put Cintron down for the count. His knockouts over Lewis and others were also brutal. If it wasn't one punch, it was certainly a handful that did it. And I'll tell you this. Santos and Williams take a better punch than Miguel Cotto does. I don't need to tell you what will happen if Cotto gets hit like those two got hit. This isn't undersized Zab Judah. This isn't post-BALCO Shane Mosley. And it isn't the contender Alfonso Gomez. Margarito is a real banger at 147. There is a reason why these guys shell up after taking some of his shots. Margarito will be the hardest puncher Miguel Cotto has faced at 147 and possibly in his entire career.
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl AND THERE GOES THE LAST SHRED OF CREDIBILITY YOU HAD. NOTH THAT YOU REALLY HAD ANY.
Like I mentioned above, Gerry Penalosa, a moderate puncher, stopped Jhonny Gonzalez with a single left hand to the body. Is that indicative of true fight ending power? No. Any boxer is capable of stopping fighters with single shots to the liver/solar plexus, if landed on the sweet spot. Cotto has more than a few of those type of KOs. Does that mean he has fight ending power as well? Yes, Margarito is capable of stopping opponents with torrents of punches. We all know that. But what don't know if he's capable of doing that against the best fighters in his division. Unless you consider Cintron one of the best at 147. It's debatable that Williams takes a better shot than Cotto. Santos? **** no. You're only saying that because of the way he handled Tony's punches. Daniel Santos had always been perceived as having a weak chin after Kofi Jantuah stopped him in less than 6 rounds, and actually effected Daniel to the point where he adopted a more over cautious, saftey first style. Yory Boy Campas had Santos on ***** street for most of the 8th round of their fight and on the verge of being legitimately KO'd, compared to a momentary wobble in round 5 against Tony. Just as I can say, this isn't a "heartless crybaby Kermit Cintron," a "Joshua I Broke My Hand...I mean Knuckle Clottey," or "Golden Hit my Prime 10 years ago Johnson" either. Margarito at 147, hits no harder than Judah, or Bailey and Torres at 140.
shut the **** up! There's alway some homo claiming that Cotto got hurt...but at least they choose a fight that was somewhat competitive...your dumbass picked one of the biggest lopsided wins of Cotto's career...what a waste of space you areatsch
So you make a long winded post on how you dont have to dissect anything. Again you didn't say anything of relevence. I can see you're just a trash talker who thinks they know more then they will ever show. Great...
How is it parroting when he really does recover well? Unelss you can point out a 'for instance'...which I really doubt you will. backing things up with examples doesn't appear to be your MO. Just trash talking...
How about the other knockouts on Margarito's resume? He knocked Gomez silly with one clean headshot and then one more finished the job. Andrew Lewis was what? 3-4 punches? Don't give me that ref saved him bull****. The ref was the only thing keeping him on his feet. Johnson was knocked silly from one solid uppercut also. True these guys are C level opponents. But he knocked them out as you'd expect from a heavy handed slugger. Cintron was and still is a top 10 welterweight. He was at the time considered one of the top 6-7 welterweights. That's a fact. I would put Cintron on the same level as Carlos Quintana. Jantuah had very good power for his weight class. Check out his knockout of Rubio for an example. But how younger 154lb Santos takes shots wasn't my point anyways. My point was that at 170lbs, Santos can take a Margarito shot very well. So could Paul Williams. How is a smaller welter like Cotto going to take those same body shots? How is a smaller welter like Cotto going to stand up the constant barrage of punches upstairs and downstairs? Nevermind what lands flush and what doesn't. Cotto is better than all of those guys. No arguing that. But styles make fights. And Cotto is going to be fighting a guy who won't be discouraged by his offense, who won't be discouraged by his boxing skill and who won't be taking breaks during rounds. A guy who has enough power to put him down and out as well. If you think he had issues with Torres wait till Margarito is mauling him.
