Curious as to which rounds people had Froch winning against Ward. It was a near-shut-out, but many had Froch winning 1-3 rounds right after the fight, if I remember right. I'm always interested in looking at brief moments of success a badly beaten fighter had against his opponent to try and look for effective tactics and think of ways to turn them into consistent trends in a rematch. Donaire-Rigondeaux for example showed a round or two of strategies Donaire would have done well to prepare to execute from the outset, but adjusted far too late and too sparingly. I heavily favor Ward, in fact I think Ward may stop him in a rematch, but if it goes through, I'd like to be able to look for the things that might give Froch more success. I enjoy the challenge. Another point of discussion might be which couple of rounds were more competitive, even if Ward edged them. Or, which punches Froch landed with the most consistency, even when losing rounds.
I forgot about the fight almost entirely. I remember Ward outboxing Froch and I think there was one point where Ward stunned him/backed him off. I also remember Ward being in trouble once in the late rounds, he looked very tired and was trying to keep Froch off of him. I would say that would be Froch's success, get Ward tired by staying active. Throw a lot of punches and try to KO him late. That's the only thing I can think of. I saw the fight once and that was live on Showtime, I never saw it again.
So far we have rounds 5, 9, 11, and 12 as contenders. Nah, it wasn't close, but I just don't get why people find Ward boring. He was boring against Bika and not so exciting against Abraham, but he beat the crap out of Kesslar, Froch, and Dawson with explosive attacks that had his opponents' heads rocking back.
Same here for the most part. Havent seen the bout since the initial showing, but I had the impression it was more Ward taking his foot off the gas late with the fight thoroughly in the bag. When I heard about his broken hand afterward, it kind of made sense. If there were to be a rematch, I don't see Froch letting Ward bully him so much, and coming up with a few means of counteracting that. However, I also see Ward prepared to go in other directions should those tactics not work. PS- IIRC, didn't Froch admit, postfight, that he wasn't prepared for an infight vs Ward? Yikes.
He was really reckless in the later rounds with his head and cut him bad, that was shitty and should have been called, but Kessler was thoroughly beaten by that point. What Ward did over the course of the fight was masterful.
These are the judge's scorecards. Curiously, one judge gave Froch 3 of the first 4 and had the fight even after 10: http://fightnews.com/Boxing/wardscorecard.gif Scores and scorecards from posters right after the fight: http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=368393 Anybody give him any of the first 4 rounds?
Can't quite remember which but I gave him 2 of the later ones (9 and 11- I think of the top of my head).
