It's part of it but like i said earlier, lack of discipline towards the end of his career. We've seen boxers like lewis-forrest (rip)-marquez -hopkins etc still going strong late in their career cuz they had the discipline to trained hard for every fight.
Also to throw a different angle out there that sort of ties everything in, Perhaps Tyson realized that he could make a lot of money without actually "being" Tyson the fighter. Just his persona was enough to sell tickets and make a fortune...so he spent less time training and more time being absolutely bat **** insane. Even the people who interviewed him said he could turn he is psychotic persona off and on like a light switch. Maybe Tyson the fight turned into Tyson the actor.
The fly in the ointment with this is that Tyson himself has to listen and then go and do what he's told. How many instances did we ever see that happen? That, and I've never been a big fan of that peekaboo defense and there were always going to be certain styles that just didn't mesh well. Plus, you have the footwork issue and when you get a guy that squares up a lot, you are simply looking at a guy that'll lose sooner or later when they face the opponents with tools. Squaring up is one of the worst habits to have in the sport.
He didn't have nearly as many issues as those guys who need to rummage around in a 20 year-old rubbish heap to find a magical reason for Tyson's demise. Whatever lets you sleep easy, but I suggest talking to your doc about a simple sleep aid.
this is very true about squaring up. it's seen in spades in tysons first ever loss to douglas. it's yet another flaw in his technique that could have been addressed by watching the rock who never posed a square target. and again you are right to point out that even if tyson had the reversal of fortune to recieve sound boxing advice, there is the question of what would he have done with it. ...continued
i'm stating the reason for his downfall is because he never learned a better style for boxing. mine is not to reason why.
in the end tyson has no one to blame but himself.....he allowed himself to be manipulated by bad people and it wasnt because he wanted it,he just wasnt smart enough at the time to see it.....i think he see's it now but as we all know its too late
tyson squared up against douglas because there was no head movement . Ask yourself this if marcianos defensive techniques were so much better than tysons how come tyson got hit so much less when he used the peek a boo style . the peek a boo style was so much better than marcianos walking straight in crouching low. the fact of the matter is tyson employed a lot of head movement , marciano was rediculously easy to hit his defense was non existant.
Even after the loss to Douglas, Tyson was still a formidable fighter. The defeat to Douglas certainly brought the hunger back & made him realise that you cannot disrespect any opponent by not preparing correctly! I still maintain if Mike had not gone to prison he would have regained the title, be it Holyfield, Bowe or Lewis he fought for the title! Tyson went to prison for a crime he feels he did not committ! I do not carwe who are, but that's got to have had a detrimental effect on his outlook on the world & society in general. IMO, Tyson's career sort of finished the day he was sentenced to three years jail time! No one, no matter who they are, can be inactive, be absent from any profession, no matter how good they are, & come back as good as they once was. Impossible! Tyson lost valuable time when he was sent to prison, time I think when he would have once again been top of the HW division!
I am a HUGE Tyson fanatic. It was neither those choices given. The one who ended Tyson's career was Robin Givens, his ex-wife. He was having marital problems the time he fought Buster. And of course, his "yes" men and Don fuggin' King.
