are you joking you sentimental saps? cus dying turned mike into a mental case? that's what did it? you gotta forget mike was a juvenile criminal when cus met him. atlas tells the story he had to protect his 11yr old cousin from mike forcing himself on her. the truth is there is no point in mikes life much less his career when he wasn't capable of a bizzar quote of all indictments.
dayda your an idiot. You just said that Tyson was better when he fought Lewis than Spinks? Your out your mind, bro. You really have no clue what your talking about.
he bit his ear. yeah and the guy kept headbutting him. and nobody was doing anything about it and it was the second fight in a row that this happened to him. it's tragedy and the makings of. mills lane should have taken a point and issued a disqualification warning. tyson was in the best shape of his life. then if hollyfield did it again he should have been disqualified. mike hey he might have lost anyway to hollyfield. we'll never know hey the guy needed to headbutt for some reason gets dispensation for it and everything. i heard hollyfield took steroids never heard the same about tyson but who would be surprised either or.
Tyson's career was ruined because after the people Cus entrusted to take care of him died--everyone exploited him. The best thing that could have happened to him was losing his money because they left him alone. I recently met him and he seems like he is finally happy.
cus damato had three champions they all did the same exact thing. torres never fought anyone of note was knocked out in the 5th round by someone he never faught again then when he did fight someone of some real merit dick tiger he lost twice by decision. but patterson and tyson are like frick and frack. both become youngest heavyweight champ using peekaboo. cus said floyd had a bad back when he faught ali. well how bout when he faced sonny liston? i i equate your faith in kevin rooney to the kind of faith someone might have in a lucky rabbits foot. well i'll tell you - there ain't no rabbits foot that would have helped floyd patterson on any of the nights he faced sonny liston. so what happened? the peekaboo style wasn't working that night? certainly right it wasn't working. both tyson and floyd woke up one day in the deep end with nothing but what cus taught them and it wasn't good enough. why? this guy trying tell me cause of robbin givens. i almost buy it.
The other thing with a peekaboo is that everything is done on a count. Dip left. Dip right. or dip left/right/left again. Then, rise up and then punch while coming up. It's always the left foot first & then step in with the other foot. a 2 step and strictly going forward offense. A guy with a peekaboo cannot backup effectively. Opponents that stay within that 2 step perimeter are in the danger zone and at the end of the punches. When a guy goes up a level in competition, these things become magnified. Look at that Patterson--Liston fight and the peekaboo. Sonny threw punches were Floyd was going to move into, not where he was standing or where he was at. Bang. hit clean and it was all over. Same with Arguello--Rooney. It takes a guy with tools--and some good legs-- to be able to exploit that type of defense. If a guy doesn't face opponents with tools and especially good legs, it's a non-factor.
Whatever floats your boat. How does a guy that can outjab and outbox 6'5 highly rated fighters like Tony Tucker at 5'10 "not schooled in the art of gaining positioning to throw shots" For my money Tyson is a better defensive fighter than Frazier, too.
IMO it was fame and success that brought him down, Cus's death and sacking Rooney did not help either.
Tyson was also much more evolved than Patterson was. This "two step" thing your talking about is common to any boxing style. It's normal to keep the fight at your distance. The peak-a-boo style has more to do with creating openings and counter-punching. Mike Tyson was the best fighter to ever use this style, and it suited him perfectly.
Go ahead and think what you wish. It is a copycat sport and I wonder why a 50 year old style hasn't been copied more often. And 2 steps is hardly the same style used by every other style & is just a predictable facet of the peekaboo style.
