I remember Eddie Hearn saying a few fights back that he wanted to manovure Kell Brook into a mandatroy position for the IBF title, so negotiations would be on their terms, and they couldnt be dictated to. Can rival promoters not request options on the mandatories? As i understand it, if its a voluntay defence its a case of "take this much money and count yourself lucky" How is it different with a mando? Thanks
Depending on the alphabet org, and the situation a mandotary defence has a somewhere between 60/40 and 70/30 split. Some cases even 55/45 with "in recess" situations. Also rematches and such can't be enforced by the champ. So instead of bitching about money and "slave contracts" when some get a titleshot, they should just become mandatory and take the jackpot. Problem is, they have to take risks to get to that spot and most current boxers don't want anything to do with risky non title fights.
It also means that if the sides can't come to an agreement then purse bids go in which means that if Hearn is willing to pay enough he can get home advantage for Brook.
