I think there is a middle between a hardcore and a casual fan, a hardcore fan is very knowledgeable about boxing. He can list a long detailed essay about everything there is about fighters from the past and the present. Can give a long discussion and predict the outcome between two fighters. Can give systematic breakdowns involving technical boxing terms etc.

Then there is the middle, who does know about boxing but doesn't have complete boxing knowledge. Loves to watch fights but wouldn't bother about the boring fighters. When ask about a prediction between two fighters, all he can say is he thinks A is going to win by KO or UD but can't fully explain why he think so or can give an explanation but the explanation is not convincing or will strike you as just a simple explanation like saying because he's faster than him.

Then there is the casual fan

I am not sure....Ali is old, out of shape and I am sure he would be hindered by his other health issues. Pac on the other hand is on the tail end of his prime, or has just departed from it....I like Pac in by first round stoppage. Ali has agreat chin and still that may allow him to remain on his feet...but the ref will have no choice but to step in and stop this.

    All hail Pac

    Boxing gym.

That's the only place any fan would truly understand what they're watching on that screen. By understand I mean movement, speed, timing, feints, actual power/steam in punches, stamina and possibly predict a fighter's intentions through physical gestures made within that squared circle. By experiencing it yourself, even at the lowest levels would anyone understand how it's like to be in a good or bad situation in an actual boxing match.

Of course this doesn't necessarily have to be right, just my personal opinion, there are a lot of great experts out there that didn't experience it physically. Excellent thread for a change.

Just because you're black does not mean you need to be everything pro Mayweather. Learn to develop an opinion of your own before you throw around insults. Don't be a sheep like the rest of 'em. Simple logic would tell you who's really scared of who, or in their case, them both ducking the **** out of each other. With that being said, learn the sport as an entity, not only certain fighters because their skin matches yours.

a hard core fan would love boxing enough to try it, know many fighters, watch many fights.

The most hardcore fans are the ones who really put themselves out there to try and really understand boxing inside the ring and out

Any half sane "hardcore" boxing fan with any in-ring experience wouldn't DARE claim that a professional in Mayweather's ability would be scared of someone within his profession. As I say that, I don't think any hardcore boxing fan would say Pacquiao is scared of anyone either. You do understand that boxing is THEIR LIFE and FIGHTING is what they have been doing for a living ALL THEIR LIVES, if any of those guys had any fear you honestly think they would go that far?

That's the point of this discussion. Surely a fruit like you won't understand a thing I'm typing here because you think that you're hardcore for slurping in some McDoodles while watching boxing on youtube.

I am not black or asian.....and it is kinda stupid (sorry! I mean that as unoffensively as possible) to think that either guy is scared of the other. I imagine that all things being equal both guys would be willing to fight the other. We live in an era where there is not a color line, but buisiness decisions hinder fights taking place. If you really believe that any world class athlete/boxer is scared to fight another I doubt that you have a good grasp of boxers and/or boxing.

The fight not taking place is a blemish upon both of their resumes/legacies and the blame lies squarely with both of their camps.

i don't think they are scared of each other but it's more like i got my own thing going and you got yours. i felt this way especially after seeing the highest paid athelete on the forbes list was floyd and pac. beating out people like tiger woods, lebron james, and other atheletes i don't know because i only follow boxing is no easy feat especially fighting people like bradley and ortiz. so why fight each other and give into each other's demands when they can fight for a lot of money and all the other fighters are willing to meet their demands.

When you have ATG rankings in every division, follow the sport, collect fights, know the name of every HW champion, etc.

I agree. However, business decisions can intefere. Many boxers logically follow a risk-reward way of thinking.

A hard core fan will cancel the date with his girlfriend to watch a big fight or the world championship fight instead. He doesn't want to meet her or does anything at that time but watching that big fight.
