When you can watch a technical fight and enjoy the subtleties.

When you know the experience of being at a live fight.

When you know the commentators, refs, judges.

When you check up on boxing news everyday.

When you have a deep hatred for Bob Arum

And like someone else mentioned, it definitely helps if you've been in the ring yourself to be able to fully appreciate it.

I love when Teddy breaks down what's going on in the ring. Really makes you appreciate the subtle movements an experienced fighter makes. Whenever he says something to the effect of "A more experienced fighter would have done this..." I'm all over that **** lol.

When your girlfriend knows more about boxing than most of the men in this world. My gf keeps hearing me talk and shes aware of even people on espn, shobox etc. When you are a school teacher like me and you give extra credit to kids who watch big fights and they write a report about what they learned and how a fight can be applied to lessons in life, and the subject you teach is music.I would even choose small fights but i dont think they'd watch it. Pretty sure they can find someone whose ordering a big ppv fight though.

IMO, you tell the difference when you try to actually break down a fight and predict an outcome...Prime example, just look at my signature for further proof!

A hardcore fan would probably watch a lot of fights even if it is a snoozefest. ( hey, sometimes you have to suffer the pain just to get the outcome...**** happens!:yep) Most casual fans would have probably stop watching if the fight doesnt catch their eye.

See what I mean!!! This is exactly what I am talking about. This is what "casual fans" talk about...ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT LONG, MAYWEATHER AND PACQUIAO. Over the next three weekends Boxing Fans (Real Fans) are going to be treated like ****ing royalty with tons of fights on HBO, SHOWTIME, ESPN2, TELEMUNDO, TELEFUTURA Y MAS. Not to mention the tons of fights we can access online (undercards). But posters like this only wants to go on & on about The Same ****...Mayweather and Pacquiao. When will they learn that there is far too much going on in the sport. So until they learn and grow as fight fans....they will continue to be: CASUAL FANS!!!

I personally don't rate myself as a hardcore fan, I see myself as someone who really enjoys watching it and is trying to learn more about it.

A hardcore fan is someone with no gap in their boxing knowledge for the last few eras, someone who can see a fighters strengths and weaknesses, someone who if given the chance to see someone live will travel hundreds of miles just to see it.

A casual fan is someone who will come around your house on a Saturday night if a huge fight in on, they will have a few beers and as they get drunk more and more will start to think they are pro boxers and their opinions are completely right.

A great interest in the sport as opposed to a great interest in a particular fighter. I don't think you need to be particularly knowledgeable about it's history to be called a hardcore fan, you just need to have genuine interest and passion. For me personally this extends to watching amateur bouts, paying a subscription fee for a boxing channel so I can see as many fights as I can, I go to fights when I can, I have dvd's, books littered about my room, forum membership, I buy boxing video games. I also box myself.

My videos on my Iphone consist of a couple films such as Kingpin (which everyone should have) and loads of boxing vids. Not merely because they are meant to be exciting fights, but so I can study and learn from each video and fighter, it's an educational thing.

I like to think I live & breathe the sport as much as somebody who doesn't get paid to practice it can
