Unbeaten over 2 divisions.the only man who could possibly be compared to him at the weight jones jr he annihilated.over 20 title defences.was there any 1 attribute that set him apart from the rest ?
Hello Tocker , Thanks for saving the show here in Cardiff when you had the nuts to fight Joe on two weeks notice after Thomas Tate **** his pants and ran for the hills , hope you had a nice time here in my beautiful city of Cardiff ...:good
It's a shame. Calzaghe could have been known as something great, really great but I guess he never wanted to really test himself.
Massive Calzaghe fan back in the day Francis but there is a lot to be said about your comment , Joe could have been a lot more than he actually was , He unified the 168lbs division and captured a L/Heavyweight title the first time he fought at that specific weight , he done well but he left it too late to unify @175lbs due to imo confidence issues and severe injuries to his hands .
Yeah I agree that Joe could've potentially been a great had he of ventured overseas earlier. Calzaghe looked to have all the right tools, probably just got comfy in the UK, which is fair enough.
well said as always josey :good he vs roy jones a few years earlier than when they fought would have been an excellent fight, id give the edge to rjj only slightly though it would be a ball tearer.
He missed the boat big time Josey. His win over RJJ is a farce which never should have happened. At the time Joe should have fought Pavlik and bashed him senseless like Bhop got credit for. That should have been Joe but no he had no ambition so he fights the shot to **** corpse of RJJ. ****in hell Joe. Yes I know Pavlik isn't all that but at the time he was an undefeated star and Joe should have fought him. The Bhop win was ok but far too little too late. A wasted talent if ever there was one - Joe Calzaghe's career.
I agree somewhat with Francis & Josey here. A little more ambition from Calzaghe, not leaving his run a touch late & he could have went down even higher in 168/175 pound history.
Who did he duck ? Who could he have fought ? Who came even remotely close to beating him except Reid in 46 fights ?. Answer to all of the above....... No one
Would have been nice to see him destroy Ottke... and... he should have shut Froch's trap when he was calling him out. Perhaps Froch wouldnt be the star he is today as a result...
I'm a big Froch fan, who the hell isn't, but Calzaghe beats him quite easily if they had have fought way back when.
What sets Calzaghe apart in my opinion was his workrate and natural fighting ability. The guy also was able to recoup really well and not be fazed when knocked down or stunned. I agree with some posters, his career could've been so much better. He beats Froch everyday of the week and i'm a big fan of Froch He would've stopped Pavlik on workrate and outpointed Ottke fairly easy.
