Andy Lee wants an immediate rematch. But should Vera do it? There's always the chance that Vera could win a rematch. Andy Lee showed stanima (what is it with Manny fighters and stanima problems?), defensive, and punching power problems in the match. I'd give Vera about a 33% chance of winning. A second victory would definitely boost him to the next level of fighters. But maybe Vera doesn't need a risky rematch and can make the jump to higher level opponents now. This wasn't a championship bout and Vera isn't bound by any rematch clause. He may be able to make a run for some higher level fights. After all his name recognition among the boxing community just tripled. Why not parlay that into a shot for the bigger leagues? He can't get a championship bout ( though with Sturm facing Pittman and Abraham facing Ayala makes you wonder ), but I bet he'd make a decent opponent for a number of boxers who are tired of padding their records with nobodies and would like to face an opponent (particularly a low skill, vulnerable appearing one) who has managed to generate some noise.
What should Vera do next? Get back in the gym and work on: 1) Throwing straight punches all the time instead of half the time; 2) Work on his mental game; when Lee was hammering him he was calm and kept it together, but when he had Lee hurt he got really excited and went wild; 3) Tighten up his defense; 4) Improve his finishing skills. If he can improve in the areas I mentioned, he'll be ready for McKart, Eastman, Ornelas, and others at that level. Ornelas woud be my choice since he currently holds the NABF title at 160. Boo
this definatly needs a rematch, anyone who denies that is quite simply a hater, for lee to be winning on the cards and with the premature stoppage there is no alternative,of course for people in two years time to look back and say, 'well lee got beat by vera,so he's ****' there has to be a rematch,no other way,lee deserves his chance and if vera thinks he is good enough he will take it ... it would be a big money fight also.
I had Lee ahead by one point Only because of the 10-8 first round. This was another case of a guy being ahead on the cards, but loosing in the ring. Vera cleanly and clearly won rounds 4, 5, and 6. The stoppage was appropriate. There was no reason to let Andy take a bunch more flush right hands, and he had absolutely no answer for them. Yes Andy was firing back, but so what. There's a clip on You Tube of a guy throwing punches while lying on his back unconscious! You Irish guys are going to have to look to Macklin for redemption because Lee and Duddy will continue to dissapoint. Boo
i cant quite remember my exact socring but i recall i had lee up by 3 points and i think thats what the judges had aswell ... im not talking about it on a nationalistic point of view and i agree that lee should not have taken so many shots but the fact was that vera was on chicken legs 5 seconds before the stoppage, its a major question of ifs and buts and noone knows what really could have happened.i sincerely feel a rematch is needed as a boxing fan as it was a sham stoppage. btw **** you, duddy doesnt disappoint,he simply fights and wins nothing more nothing less:deal lol
Duddy is probably to big of a step to take all at once. Like I said, I'd pit him against Ornelas for the NABF title, but the winner of McKart/Marquez would also be a good choice. That would be a REALLY good choice if McKart wins because we would have two guys coming off "upset" wins. Plus a well known and generally respected old warrior against a hungry young lion. That makes a nice back story. Boo
true, its actually not a bad idea, might do it later tonight if i get the time,im away training now. what do you think of macklin anyway boo?or is that why you want a thread made lol
i think he should have a rematch with lee. But that is because i think lee will beat him second time round!
