i like the Wlad-Vitaly fight lol, i'd pass on Pac-mosley for that one. But Wlad and Vitaly had an axe to grind with HBO. Greenburg and Kerry Davis is in deep ****. When CBS shows Pacquiao and Obama rubbing shoulders in Washington while America falls in love with the asian boxer, Greenburg's head is gonna roll off the HBO building

You don't try to put a show on competing against the super bowl. Think putting the Lakers vs. Celtics would be a good idea to go head to head against the Super Bowl? Or the Golden Globes up against the Oscars? Would people watch them? Of course. But would you get as many people watching as opposed to if they didn't go up against an other show? Nope, not even close. Basically you just wasted a marquee matchup trying to save face.

So, you guy think it's a good idea for HBO to spend a lot of money to make a big fight just to go up against the biggest fight of the year?

Nothing about that makes sense.

However, if I was stupid enpugh to make the choice and go up against Pac vs. Shane, then it would have to be something HUGE, and not just inserting some Mexican because of the day. Something llke Wlad. vs. Haye. Has to have top teir names.

 

WCW did it back in the day vs. WWE and it worked...

 

It's not the cost I am comparing, it's the event. But now you are a stickler for details after suggesting HBO counter Pac. vs. SSM and you used Super 6 against HBO as an example? Lets at least be consistent.

Look, we are talking about the biggest even of the year. Yes, that is what Pac vs. Shane is. This is going to sell a lot. Anything on HBO will automatically has much less viewers because of this. That is what I am talking about, which I am unsure if you understand. You save your "A GAME" for when it matters. Not to use in a losing situation.

 

I haven't read through all the posts, don't know whats been said. Here's my 2 pesos. Pacquiao is too big of a name amongst the casual Mexican fans for anything else to compete against it. Sure, i'ts cinco de Mayo but that doesn't necessarily mean we (Mexicans) will rather watch a card with the Mexican on it; I would like to believe we're not that shallow. But the HBO card would be free.

Us cheap Mexicans like free things, and would look for an excuse not to pay for a fight. But for any event to compete against Pac Mosley, it would have to involve marquee names, and it would be like wasting a potential PPV event.

With that being said, if HBO were intent on it Canelo, whether deservedly or not, is a rapidly growing name. If he were matched with some decent competition I'd watch that instead, coupled with a decent undercard.

Well bearing in mind HBO have actually dumped Pacquiao's ass, I really can't seem them making a 24/7 for him............

HBO has given Arum the boot. He's trying to make a deal with Showtime right as I type this.

Ellerbe is freaking pissed off with Arum's 6th all Top Rank fight in a row, and his refusal to deal with Oscar on anything.

So, typical Arum, he's probably cost his guy about $5 million a fight, as well as 300k off the PPVs every bout.

So, just if you thought the Mayweather fight is ever going to happen, Arum falls out with Floyd's TV guys, and signs a freaking 6 fight deal with their rivals for Pacquiao

You are clearly missing out on the big picture. I'm asking why you think HBO would try to counter a show that will have a majority of the viewers.

We've all seen HBO and SHO counter each other. It's very rarely been beneficial to fans. Especially going against the biggest fight of the year. Head to head boxing cards are not a good idea. There are 52 weekends a year. We get WAAAAY to many lulls where there isn't a big fight. Why not just take the next weekend? What's wrong with that?

Like I said, HBO would be setting themselves up to lose for no reason.

Now I dont watch showtime but I did notice once during the super 6 HBO had a tripple header. Guess what Lance, I was in Heaven LOL I was just flipping back and fourth as Andre Ward landed good head butts agains Bika and Luitzo made me Roflmao @ that guy Jeff Mayweather trained. Good Good stuff and I think Berto Knocked some guy out Cold that night. Ward fight wasnt very good but guess what? it was a fight that was on Tv and I watched all the fights!

I just want Boxing on all the time lol
