I used to be a high level amauter heavyweight, then i got feed up with the sports stupid scoring like a knockdown scoring the same as a jab. And now do mma, my school does loads of grappling and clinch, but little striking. I am training six days a week, but dont want to be a mma fighter who isnt sharp on standup. The question i need to ask is, shall i go and do kickboxing at a other school i know and cut back on the grappling. Or just make the best of the sporadic striking in my gym, and relie on my past as a puncher to see me through?
First thing you should do that is quite essential is not post same thread twice. Then you can go ahead and find an MMA school that has a really good Mui Thai coach.
If nothing else - buy a heavy bag and create your own striking routine. You need sparring to build your timing - but at least with a bag you can build combinations.
I have just got back from training, my instucter reckons i can be a good fighter. I have decided to go kickboxing two times a week, luckily where i live i have 3 top mma acadamys, and 1 genuine bjj blackbelt instructer who teaches top class ground teqnique. The kickboxing gym is headed by a teacher who has produced, a plethora of upper eholon strikers. Because i am fairly well known in my local area as a ex boxer, i was approched by a ex pro in the sweet science, who said twice a week i can go round his and he will train me in his garage. I wont say his name but the guy knows a lot of the dirty tactics and is as tough as nails, he had a streetfight with three jamaicans last week and done them all. I have set my goals to be the top heavy in britian, and i believe i have the tools to do it.
