What should Joe Calzaghe do after winning the title at 175?

I believe he'll probably come back to Wales and make some big money with some american names at 175 lbs such as RJJ or the winner of Dawson-Johnson, or at worst, with the winner of Woods-Tarver, and that will be it. He should not fight under pressure of putting his legacy in danger for much longer than that... Definitely Hopkins stands in between Calzaghe and all that glory, and that can lead Bernard towards his goal too - beating a great undefeated champion and ride into his own sunset.

I also believe Joe is big enough to handle Dawson. As for what he should do, personally I think he's nuts if he doesn't go for 50 wins and beat Marciano's record. He could do it. It's risky, but I think he can pull it off. He should fight Jones and shut him up, too.

    Hopkins
    Winner of Woods-Tarver
    Winner of Pavlik-Taylor
    Jones

... then mop the floor with Sven Ottke!

I think Dawson is overrated, he has good skills but i doubt his dedication and heart. Calzaghe would make a fool of him.

In fact I don't know how the sanctioning bodies could let Joe keep em after moving up to 175..unless he jumped back down to 168 within a few months to fight(which I don't think he'll do) Any thoughts? Anyone have the rulebook handy?

He's not fighteing for an official 175 title and he's not due mandatory just yet. Simple really.

Well joe hasnt vacated and at this stage it is only one fight, plus Hopkins doesnt hold a alphabet title so they are not likely to strip him for fighting him. If he moves down he'll still hold the super middleweight baubles.

I'm not sure hopping around from 168-175 is a good thing for Joe as some of the prospective matchups imply he would have to do

Doesn't really bother me, he'll have done everything he needs to

Pavlik would be my first choice, simply because he'd be schooled and it would look spectacular

Woods/RJJ would be a good retirement fight in Wales

Well I agree, stick at one weight and dominate it. He would essentially have the pick of two weights.

I think he should fight the Pavlik/Taylor winner. Even if he beats Popkins, he still didnt beat the best from America as Taylor beat Popkins twice. I would like to see Joe C. with one of the pirme champs, Taylor or Pavlik.
