I seriously believe that Mayweather would have stopped Ortiz late, had there not been for the headbutt that started all that. He was starting to tag him with authority and you could see Ortiz was bothered.
He certainly shouldn't have been letting Mayweather fire off combinations like he was at the beginning of the fourth. I wouldn't have been surprised if he had quit on his stool later on, which considering how he acted with the foul in the fourth, would have been a much sweeter win for Floyd in my opinion compared to twatting some inexperienced kid who had his hands down for some stupid reason. Ahh well, Floyds certainly added something extra to his stock with the way it went down last night, makes the Marquez incident pale in comparison.
If I'm paid to fight you, you can't punch me in the face and then apologize for it. If you hit me in the face, I'm going to instinctively try to hit you back and much harder. That is the first rule of fighting, and kids learn that **** in grammar school. If someone hits you, hit them back as hard as you can. That is what Floyd did. **** protocol, headbutts aren't part of protocol.
I honestly feel ALL 3 - Ortiz, Cortez and PBF share the blame but Ortiz has most of it. If he did not head butt, which IS ILLEGAL, he would not have to kiss PBF at that point and eat a sneaky 1-2 combo (though it is likely something down the line something similar would have occurred anyway). Second, after the initial left hook, what did YOU think PBF is going to stop? If he did not put his guard up before he definitely should have put his guard after the left hook. Cortez is not your opponent, keep your eyes on PBF. Hey Cortez, you are paid to watch what is going INSIDE the ring not outside you numbnuts PBF - stay classy. Stop ****ing with Merchant when you LOVE to play the villain. In fact, you think it is the way to get paid. It was a cheap shot, not illegal, but stop whinning you are not the most respectable human being. And that is saying a lot considering this is boxing.
Ortiz has only himself to blame, but it was definitely a cheap shot by Mayweather by all accounts. He shouldn't let Ortiz hug him the second time around in the first place. But no, it was only after he allowed Ortiz to come near him to give him the sweet apology when threw a suckerpunch.
He should waited for Cortez to say "Time in", stuck his chin out, closed his eyes and let Ortiz hit him square in the face. Thats the only way Floyd "wins" on ESB
A true Champ should have conducted himself like a professional. He clearly took advantage of Ortiz's over eagerness to apologize. Mayweather clearly lured him in for a hug with the intent to sucker punch him. If you can't see that, then you either you are lying to yourself, or you have a horrible eye for the fight game. Also, Cortez did a HORRIBLE job. He said let's go, be he didn't say fight. When he said let's go, I honestly thought... and Ortiz did too... that he was just bringing them in toward each other... so that he can say a couple words and say "fight". Shame on Victor Ortiz. We know he's a mental midget, but that was pathetic the way that he rammed Mayweather in the face. I don't feel bad for him being sucker punched, because Ortiz wasn't worried about the possible damage that he could have inflicted on Mayweather with those headbutts. In other words... I am disappointed in Floyd, Ortiz, and Cortez. I guess I am disappointed in Floyd the most. I expect Ortiz to do stupid things... I already think that Cortez is a horrible ref who is more worried about being in the spotlight himself. However, Floyd... for all of his talk about "cleaning up the sport".... he sure as hell didn't do the sport any favors with his actions. In the end, it simply SUCKS to see a fight end that way. As a true boxing fan, I like to see the actual boxing match. Not headbutts and sucker punches. Pathetic.
Apparently he should have waited for an invitation from Ortiz to allow him to start throwing punches again.
