I was also thinking this. We know that when we are on a hurt game everything is thrown out, your focus, and I mean everything. However as you get better you get to control that, and maybe floyd isn't as good and as composed as he is during fight time, or he is really as cunning that it is that bad that he is in the presence of mind that he is gonna throw a cheap shot.. In one question after his post fight interview, one press asked him that was he aware that when they last hug that he will clock Ortiz once they separate, and he just laughed, I think when they hugged last he was thinking exactly it... Cheap shot for floyd, Too bad Ortiz has a glass jaw
If the roles were reversed Ortiz would be a hero today, as most would say Floyd got what he deserved.
Jack Dempsey did it to Jack Sharkey. During the 7th round, Dempsey hit Sharkey with a low blow. On his own accord, Sharkey dropped his hands and complained to the referee about Dempsey hitting him low. However, the ref had not stopped the fight, so Dempsey threw a left hook, which landed squarely on the point of Sharkeys chin, knocking him cold before he hit the canvas. After the fight, when questioned about his actions, Dempsey said, WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?, SEND HIM AN ENGRAVED INVITATION TO FIGHT? THIS IS BOXING. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES! Dempsey was a beloved figure so instead of getting slammed by the media and fans, he got a title shot against Tunney. The major difference here is that Floyd has been the villian too long and as a result he's usually held to a different standard. If the roles were reversed Ortiz would be praised by the very people who are blaming Floyd and acting like the legal punch he landed is worse than the illegal blow that Ortiz landed on Floyd. For ****'s sake Mike Tyson bit Evander Holyfield's ear as a result of the headbutting.
:deal Great Post! Somebody actually had the nerve to say "Jack Dempsey would never do that." in another thread. They must not watch any old film.
Ortiz appologising does not mean that Floyd has to accept it. A headbutt like that deserves a response in kind. deal
1 there was no ref stoppage, and it was not as if he was apologizing. If this would be the sentiment, then we should crucify Tito Trinidad and Hopkins, and other more boxers. 2. Boxing back then was more primitive than now. Now people just know better. 2. Back then there was no ESB so we could not know what the real reaction of the public was.
1. Watch the film. He was clearly looking at the ref and Dempsey sucker punched him. Floyd has been a villain too long; if he were a more beloved then public would actually celebrate his KO win as opposed to the treatment he's getting now. 2. Common Sense was also around back then. 3. Even if there were ESB, the fact that Dempsey was such a loved fighter puts him in a position where there would easily be more people defending his actions than criticizing him.
Yea it didn't have to do with not having time to think or anything. Floyd always knows exactly what he's doing in a fight, even in controversial/odd moments. I also don't think the KO had anything to do with Ortiz' punch resistance. Mayweather threw the right with bad intentions, and Ortiz was completely relaxed and took a powershot. I don't think many welterweights in his place wouldn't have been on their ass receiving that kind of punch while being relaxed, unprepared and with their hands down.
