Go for a title shot right now new vs Wladimir or get some more fights under his belt before taking Wlad on?

I say he needs 5 more fights before fighting Wladimir I would put him in with......

    # 1 Tye Fields
    # 2 J.D. Champman
    # 3 Farug Saleem
    # 4 Mailk Scott
    # 5 Kevin Johnson

Actually, Chambers be the best prospect there is in America.

I would love to see Povetkin shut up that Johnson guy.

Fight some more guys who pose a threat. He needs serious work before fighting for any title. At the moment he's ripe for getting blown away.

These are all fights that Povetkin most likely by KO and lets face Povetkin did not look like a killer lasts night he needs some seasoning and big KO's to hype a fight with Wladimir:bbb

    # 1 Mailk Scott the 6'4 has a great jab and movement and should give Povetkin rounds it might go 12
    # 2 Farug Saleem Povetkin should get blow Farug away
    # 3 Tye Fields vs Povetkin would be a war could go either way
    # 4 J.D. Chapman a guy who can test Povetkins chin
    # 5 Kevin Johnson has the best jab out side Wlads among the big men if Povetkin can get past it it would mean a lot.

All these big guys that could get Povetkin ready for Wladimir:deal

fight someone who has a punch so he can learn to defend himself.. Not klitschko though, at this point he'd lose.

This comment goes way over my head. Obviously I don't know
enough about boxing to understand WTF 'retre' means.

    definitely look for klitschko.

    he's beaten 2 top 10 contenders.

    it's worth the gamble.

one more build up fight around april time and then a summer fight with klitschko. :thumbsup

It's easy: Povetkin should fight 1 or 2 more times. Not because he really needs experience (of course a few more fights are always good for a prospect) but because Wlad fights 2 times a year and his next fight after the unification will be probably sometime between July and September. Of course if Sultan wins that's another story but in that case I see an instant rematch between the two. And you know, it's still possible that Wlad's next fight if he’ll win will be a voluntary defense and there's another mandatory in the line in Thompson (WBO).

And if another unification fight is possible, Povetkin will have to wait a long-long time for his chance...

So he should take 1 or 2 easier fights if a September showdown is possible or 2-3 if he'll get the well deserved chance only at the end of the year.

Povetkin is a good fighter but no world beater he busts up and does hit real hard, I don't think he can beat a better level of guys then I listed. Guys that I think can beat Povetkin.....

    # 1 Alexander Dimitrenko
    # 2 Chris Arreola
    # 3 Tony Thompson
    # 4 Shannon Briggs
    # 5 David Tua:nono

    Classic ESB stuff.

I think he should fight Wlad. Why? Because he's already signed up on the tournament. It wouldn't look good if he said "well, i lost 3 rounds to Chambers and one to Byrd, so i'm not going to fight Wlad now".

If he loses, he loses. Big deal. It's only his 15th or 16th pro fight. He will learn a lot and come back stronger. It's going to be a great fight and will probably give him a lot bigger future fights and recognition than winning a boring decision over Tua or Briggs, trust me.

And if he wins, he will be the undisputed best. It's a win/almost win situation for him. :yep

Exactly. I was just about to post something similar.

Povetkin did find a way to do enough to get a win in both fights.
If he does better than expected against Wlad and makes a real
fight of it (or gets lucky) ... it makes a rematch down the road
    all the more interesting.

He needs more experience before taking on Klitschko. Ideally 3 or so more fights and he will be ready. I for one hope he takes Wlad out.

yes but boxing is reality, and i honestly think he gets put out... and i mean OUT... brock style.. against wlad..

hes a human, so i guess if he wants to take that risk right now... i think we take for granted fighters safety, i could see him getting really ****ed up...

i dont know if a few more fights would change that or not... but more seasoning at this stage of his career couldnt hurt.

but in a way pontius is right... maybe take the chance now cuz

1 - losing to wlad is better then beating anyone else almost in the division besides like 4 guys... in terms of exposure,
2 - he is so young in the game that he will have tons of time to bounce back

    so its a tough decision...
