i dont know about that. u still feel he's gonna walk wlad down? I would love to see povetkin against a peter or haye next. those would be very exciting, close bouts and give povetkin a taste of some heavy hitters. neither of those fights will last the distance.

Chagaev will be a difficult fight for him right now, he could possibly outwork Maskaev right now though.

White Wolf vs. White Lion would actually be interesting right now. I see Liakhovich as a very live underdog against Valuev (who Povetkin would outpoint in a horrible fight) so we could (and hopefully do) end up seeing it.

I agree with you about Lyakhovich vs Valuev. I think he has a very good chance of beating Valuev. He has been very inactive though and I'm not sure about how motivated he is. Valuev is not that difficult to beat.. even Bergeron gave him a lot of trouble. A close fight in Germany would always go to Valuev though. I'm surprised that the over on the rounds for the fight is in the + range. I really don't see Valuev stopping Lyakhovich and nobody is stopping Valuev except maybe Wlad.

Chagaev is not a very impressive fighter. He's not too hard to hit and he has very average abilities/skills. Povetkin would beat him on the inside easily and outwork him.

I would love to see Povetkin vs Peter. It's the best potential HW battle right now.

povetkin is very good h2h right now. i'd favor only wlad and sultan over him.

i feel povetkin would outwork chagaev who is too frugal with his punches and too stationary of a target. he also gets physically pushed around the ring too easily. he lets his opponent dictate the tempo. not a good idea with povetkin. he might test povetkin's chin but i'd go with povetkin by UD. very impressed how he dug down and let his hands go late in the fight.

Chagaev is not that impressive but has better defensive skills(head movement, lateral movement) than Povetkin and am sure that he would find Povetkin's chin. Povetkin is not ready for any of the champions except for maybe Maskaev.

Povetkin ought to fight a few tall, heavy punchers who are beatable- kind of like full contact sparring.

Shannon Briggs would be ideal. He is Wladdy's size and a huge puncher, but only throws 4 punches a round.

JD Chapman, though I doubt Sacha could get him in the ring.

Even though they don't have the great height, Brewster, Rahmen, or McCall, just to get his chin checked.

I think Toney gets stopped by Chagaev, Wlad, Povetkin, and Peter right now. He looked completely shot in his last fight and has probably not even trained since then. Toney is only fighting for some extra money at this point.

Regardless of what we think he should do, he stated on fightnews that he's going straight for the title shot.

Povetkin should fight Wlad, he did not enter the tournament for nothing, should not continue the actual trend of running away from the big fights, we already have enough of these examples, and should not run away from the big money he will net by fighting Wlad in a exciting bout.

I believe Wlad puts Povetkin on the deck inside 5 rds, but there is no shame in that, it won't hurt him as being a top HW and he will have plenty of time to recover and come back to be champion of the world.

Wlad himself was put on the deck 3 times already, so were Joe Lewis, Tyson, Ali, Foreman, Lennox, Holmes and other great HWs.

I think he should fight Klitschko next, even if it means he has a very low chance of winning. After the loss, he will know his level and rebuild and get better, before getting a shot at the other big names at HW, and eventually, at Klitschko again.:good

I re-watched Povetkin vs Chambers. Povetkin's money power punch in all his fights is either the left or right hook. Chambers guard, defensive minded style, and quick reflexes meant Povetkin could not land this punch. Povetkin tied several hard hooks. Few landed. Most missed or were ducked. Those that did land caught glove.

Very few fightersÂ’ heavyweights are as good defensively as Chambers was, or can counter as well as he can. Translation, Povetkin can land his hook on most fighters, and is far less likely to be countered vs anyone else in the division.

I think Povetkin has some Rocky Marciano or Joe Frazier in him in terms of stamina, intangibles, and will to win. Povetkin can change take a man's will, or change tactics needed to win. Few can match Povetkin's punch out put. While Povetkin doesn't hit as hard as Maricano or Frazier, he has better skills / range than either, and likely has a better chin than Frazier.

I do not think Povetkin is ready for Wlad right now, though he has a chance to upset Wlad based on styles. How long is Povetkin the #1 IBF contender? Can Povetkin take another fight? If so, perhaps his manager should pick a fight with a large heavyweight that can give him some rounds such as Hoffman, Meehan, or Akinwande. Or if they want a likely knockout a likely line up Laun Krasniqui or Tye Fields.

I'm pretty sure Hoffman, Meehan, Akinwande, Krasniqui or Fields would jump at the payday and chance to earn the #1 IBF spot.

Wlad will fight Ibragimov in a month. If Povetkin wants an April fight, he can take one, and then fight Wlad late in 2008. I have a hunch Wlad wants Chagaev next to unify all three belts, so Povetkin waiting a bit to use his mandatory is favorable for both fighters.
