I don't see anything different Diaz would do. If anything, Marquez will be better suited for him. Diaz was stronger, but Marquez is more powerful. Unless, next time around Diaz jumps on him again and this time if he has him hurt, go for the kill. Again, I most definitely heard Diaz tell his corner at the end of the eighth that Marquez was hitting very hard. Marquez started slow, but ended up breaking Diaz down like Casa.
I think the cut played a big part in the stoppage. Diaz himself said that he couldn't see the punches coming in the end because the blood was obscuring his vision. I had the fight even as did the judges going into the 9th. I also had Diaz winning the first 2 minutes of the 9th. The point is although Marquez was getting stronger as the fight progressed, Diaz may have been able to make it through 12 rounds in a very close fight if he hadn't gotten cut and who knows how things would have turned out. I'd love to see a rematch as i would like to see John rematch Juarez.
I agree with you, but I don't know about the cut issue. He is going to say the cut or the blood. He is not going to tell Houston or the world that Marquez was too much. Watch it again, it been on all day today. The uppercuts and body work was catching up to him and were most deifnitely hurting him. Listen to the corner at the end of the eighth. I know with Lampley the drama queen yelling at all times, it is hard to hear. Yes it was competitive and it would possibly be again. Daiz has some good whiskers too. Marquez is the real deal and maybe just maybe if he can't line up a fight with the mega fighers, he may give him a rematch. I could be wrong about how the cut bothered him, but like Kellerman said, this has happened before and he should have learned from it. The Nate cut was much more worse.
Get his degree and get a new trainer. Someone who can improve his head movement (which isn't bad but could improve) and teach him how to handle cuts and to clinch when hurt! Maybe sit down more on some of his punches. MAB came back from the two losses to Junior Jones so I don't see why Diaz can't improve his technical skills to complement his volume punching and aggressive style.
Getting a law degree is impressive. Being able to do something with it is much harder. It wouldn't hurt him to graduate, make some money boxing and do some independent study to get ready for law school between fights and to relax after training. Chances are he will make much more money boxing at the moment than he could get from a law degree. Once he is done as a boxer, get the law degree, specializing in contract law, and do what Arum does.
the only way to redeem his losses is to fight joan guzman...one of the most avoided boxers today...he has the tools to beat guzman
He gave the No. 2 P4P fighter in the world and the No. 1 lightweight hell for 9 rounds at only 25 years of age, if anything he should have more confidence than he has before. He should keep fighting and keep trying to perfect his style.
Nice guy, good head on his shoulders, has a nice style, but he should finish his degree, especially if his heart is not in it anymore. Plus his style is not suited for a long career.
Good fighter, and very brave but his lack of experience was his down fall. After his first KD, what did he do? He got up,obviously hurt, and still going forward against marquez. Smart fighter should have taken a knee or just run around or clinch..Learn from your mistakes because he has the potential to be a great fighter.......and oh, finish your education, boxing is not forever but knowledge is!!! Good luck lad!!!
