60/40 for Cotto sounds fair to me. The purse split isn't the problem though - Arum refuses to do a co-promotion.
If it's for Martinez' Middleweight Title, no worse than 50-50. Don't even know why this fight is being brought back up. Arum won't let it happen.
Yeah the champ shouldnt be fighting for less than half, I dont care if cotto has a bigger fanbase. Its a terrible fight for cotto though, he should pick angulo or chavez jr. Ok maybe just angulo or someone else
Boxing doesn't work that way and I think the fighter who is the bigger draw should get the bigger purse. Cotto put over 21,000 people inside Yankee Stadium in his last fight, while Martinez fought in front of less than 5000 people in his last fight and it wasn't clear who was the draw against Williams while it was clear Cotto was the draw against Foreman.
Are you sure there were only five thousand people for williams vs martinez.. if true damn boxing is really down when two marquee boxers can only draw that much... boxing has never been fair and is not about who is the best boxer that gets paid is more about who is the sexier name but come on five K for a MW championship fight :hat
