If you are talking about money, they should all be comfortable with Tyson and Bowe very wealthy.
If you mean legacy, I guess that is defined by their fights which are there for us all to see and judge.
On a personal note they should go with big respect for reaching the top, or near the top in the hardest trade, with all the self-sacrifice that goes with it.

Really they should not walk away at all, if boxing was like other sports they would be on TV as pundits, making public appearances, after dinner speaking, being ambassadors etc..... and at the very least being used to pass on their hard-earned skills to a new generation. I know many ex-boxers do but other fine fighters seem to disappear very quickly.

Yeah, you can't expect to spend all your money and still have it in the bank.

No, you would have done exactly what they did. You would have spent it thinking that it would have never gone away. They were not just rich, they were famous for being invincible fighters. If you lived that brave lifestyle...dollars to donuts, you would have done the same thing...I would have too...but I probably would have ended up with a drug problem, AIDS, along with being broke.

I consider them teachers to young men who grew up with nothing..who became the pennacle of life with thier fist. They are extremely blessed to only have walked away without money.

They could be much worse off.

 

What does Tyson deserve? Probably life in prison, but he got 550 million dollars, walk on roles in movies, documentaries, and a one man show.

 

I think the greatest think Mike Tyson ever earned was redemption.

It's hard for me not to look at these guys without using Lennox as their benchmark.

Retired rich and pretty with a wife and kids, and a Legacy. I think above all else, they'd all choose the Legacy.

The only one off the list i have an ounce of sympathy for is Big Frank. He was smart enough to play up to his image, he achieved his dream, but eventually lost everything he held dear.

He was never a bad man, but suffered terribly, probably in no part due to some of the punishment he took.

 

There probably ought to be a class that young athletes can take about how to handle their money. All the NFL, NBA, MLB, and boxing guys could take it. Most of them come from nothing and then return to it. Maybe, put the guys who win the lottery in that class too.

 

The vast majority of lottery winners end up broke in a few years.

That tells you a lot.

 

I would have invested it wisely .I never earned a 100th of what they did but I've been living off my investments for 9 years now, since I retired at 56 .They earned it ,they got it ,they spent it. Their choice. Tough ****!
