I mean, there's not much else left for him to do in the SMW division. Maybe he could rematch Froch to unify the WBA-WBC-IBF SMW titles before moving up to LHW.
1. Look to fight the winner of Martinez/Chavez if whoever it is would be willing to move up in weight. 2. Golovkin if he's willing to move up. 3. Dawson at 175. Would tell us how much the win was Ward and how much of it was Dawson coming down in weight. I think it was mostly Ward, but this would tell us the truth. 4. Rematch Froch who's coming off a big win over Bute 5. Cloud at 175.
yep. dirrell still poses a very interesting fight stylistically we need to see that before he moves up
Funny, that's what I suggested in the "Ward is the best SMW, well clear of Calzaghe" thread. Great minds think alike, eh? They should promote it as an "Undefeated vs. Undefeated" fight.
Stay at 168, there are just a lot more options at 168 then there are at LHW and there just seems like a lot more beneficial scenarios can happen at 168. For instance, let's say he starts off with a rematch with Kessler and wins. Maybe during that time there is the overdue Pavlik vs. Abraham match and Pavlik becomes the first person to stop Abraham and takes his strap. Even though a fight with Pavlik and Ward would be one-sided, it would be a sellable unification fight. Then perhaps sometime in that span someone like an Adonis Stevenson won 3-4 fights in a row and beat Froch...or if Dirrell finally, you know, got in the ring and won a title. Those would be sellable fights. Or maybe GGG builds up a lot of momentum on HBO and moves up(or someone beats him up and therefore that momentum shifts to the victor). Granted those are all hypothetical situations, but what options are there at 175? There's Pascal, and that would be entertaining and a sellable fight, but what after that? Cloud? Cleverly? Shumenov? He's not fighting with Hopkins. I really think the best course of action is to stay at 168 for a bit and hopefully dominate the division and see what happens at LHW as time goes by and if things get sorted out, then move up.
winner of Froch vs. Bute II Oosthuizen Some of his best options are rematches with Kessler or Abraham, with the difference in a potential rematch being to concede homefield advantage and go to Europe.
