I read that during Jack Dempseys time gloves for title fights were were 6oz in total, but in effect they were 4oz or less since the padding in the cuff had to be a minimum of 2oz for some reason.

I guess when there was a call for more cushioning in the gloves they just made the cuff bigger.

This is highly unusual. I never heard of any boxing match where the combatants had different equipment, let alone such a huge disparity.
If they did, it does not show me that Primo would win, but it would help him.
We cannot go from appearances, since he had such massive fists & bones from a form of giganticism.

Where is the evidence, that they had different glove sizes? Can you please provide some hyperlinks? Thank you.

I thought that this would be of paramount interest. It was mentioned ( revealed) by a sportswriter of the period in one of the NY newspapers. After, reading your query, I went to youtube to view the fight. The announcer of the fight, happened to make reference in the 2nd rd. to the size of Carnera's hands. . "Huge fist has this man, they worked on special gloves, so he could fit his hands into them, because, his hands are larger than any heavyweight champion." Primo was handled by Owney Madden who was boss of NY.

I am wondering if he used 16 oz. gloves in all his fights?

I always found it odd how big his gloves looked in the Gains fight. How did none of us bring this up before?

    Bigger gloves
Crowd only cheers when Larry lands
Carnera nails him with a beautiful pull counter hook that floors Larry, referee and the entire stadium ignores it

    Size does matter...
    :(
