They had limitations,but gave 100% effort. Played the game when it came to appealing across the board.

 

Gatti - Fearless

Tyson - Speed, punch slipping, unique combos, explosive

Wlad - Class act, good for the sport, great technique and dedication

Ali - The Jimi Hendrix of Boxing - Something new, dominant, fast, explosive and hard to handle.

Juan Manuel Marquez - Pure talent, no frills. Gets by on merit and not bull****.

Glen Johnson - Tenacity, old school "fists do the talking" mentality.

Entertaining: Prince Naseem, Emmanuel Agustus, Bernard Hopkins

Guys you could go drinking with: Ricky Hatton, Mickey Ward, Johnny Tapia, Butterbean, Shane Mosley

 

My favourite fighter is Glen Johnson. Not because he's the best boxer but because he truly is 'Gentleman' Glen Johnson. At the end of the day that's far more important than fistic prowess, not that Glen can't handle himself either. Here's just one example of Glen's class:

Roy Jones Jr., the favorite son of boxing fans, is still quivering in the center of the ring at the Fed Ex Forum in Memphis on September 25, 2004. Over him stands a man most people in the crowd had never heard of before that fight, the sweaty, snarling Glen Johnson.

Roy Jones Jr. — who isn't accustomed to losing — had brought his 12-year-old twin sons. The general rule in boxing is to keep the kids at home. On the off chance something tragic happens, nobody wants a child to see his or her father die in the ring. Johnson says he never takes his kids to watch him fight.

And as Johnson exits the ring that night, he spots Jones' sons, both crying, stunned by the image of their unconscious father. Johnson pauses in front of them, the blood of the fallen champion still on his gloves. The kids look terrified. "Your father did this to a lot of guys, and they're all all right," Johnson says in his deep, gentle voice. "He's going to be OK too." The children stop crying. It's the type of thing that earned Johnson the moniker "The Gentleman."

It seems impossible to not like Johnson, then you hear something like this and it becomes that much more difficult.

Talent ..It's always to see diffrent fighters of all walks of life display great talent ..From Andre Ward to Carl Froch to Nonito Donaire etc etc ..

 

Good to hear somebody mention Sonny. This dude has really got to be the most under-rated boxer/puncher in HW history. Sonny had incredible measured punching ability and had the most powerful jab in the history of the HW division. He also had great head movement and better than average defense for the era. And, considering that the 50's and 60's is most likely the peak of the HW division, that's saying quite a bit.
