Now that the Golden Boy owns that "bible of boxing" the Ring Magazine - what state is the magazine in? ... will GBP show bias towards its fighters?

How do you see the rankings going from now on?

So their champions from now on ... (who have won it since the purchase) have no clout?

I'm wondering if the GBP fighters will be favored in the rankings?

Its a shame that you have the owner as your avatar against the guy they have ranked #1 ...

I think you're a hater ... and your post has no relevance to this thread ... quit trying to start arguments ... this thread has nothing to do with the two individuals (Mayweather & De La Hoya) - it has more to do with the company Golden Boy Promotions and its subsidiaries ...

Not Oscar and definitely not Floyd --

To its credit, the articles have not been especially pro-DLH, or especially pro-GBP for that matter.

In fact, they've been pretty critical of DLH and openly bashed the PBF-DLH rematch.

in certain cases, their champions will have less clout than when the magazine was independant

as for your 2nd question, GBP fighters will probably be slightly favored in the rankings

I don't know if the fact that GBP owns the magazine is going to hurt the journalism and the stories put on.

I'm sure though that many GBP fighters or associated fighters are going to be featured more.

I'm not sure if the stories are going to be about boxing more than about other random stuff ... I also think that the thing the magazine was good at was touching basis with the old timers and the history of boxing. Stories about great boxers of old ... I don't know if Oscar himself would put an emphasis on boxing's history and tradition.

I remember seeing stories about past ring magazine titlist and old school fighters who may have been forgotten throughout today's transitioning period.

I see the Ring becoming more of a tool to promote GBP fighters. Maybe not so much right now because it would be too obvious but give it time.

I see it the same way I have always seen it. A good organization that is not perfect. I haven't seen all this preicted bias towards DLH like many haters have predicted.

    Mayweather is clearly #1 though.

Mayweather has already been the number 1 guy before GBP bought the magazine ...

Floyd has been the undisputed #1 fighter in the world since 2005

That is true, it's not like they would immediately start being pro-GBP in such short time. That would be too obvious.

I dunno how you can say Mayweather is not no. 1, the guy is a five weight champion, and that is what makes him number 1. Who else are you going to put in there? Pac-Man maybe has a chance, but he is starting to not look the force he once was, while even though I am a massive Calzaghe fan, and I know Joe cannot be number 1 because of the way he spent a lot of his early career (though this will change if he can reel off RJJ and Pavlik and maybe pick up some of the ABC titles).

Mayweather, may not be acting in the best interests of boxing at the moment and acting in his own interests, but thats what happens to a lot of boxers when the become number 1, the fight game has always been about the money, hence it being called prizefighting.

Since the "ring" title does not require mandatory defenses against a top competitor, their rankings are actually kind of irrelevant. Being ranked #1 in Ring means nothing if the "champ" doesn't ever have to fight you.
