One handed bully easily fustrated who if he can't hurt you would abandon his gameplan and retreat often into the ropes.
* Stamina * Durability * True Grit (I know Cotto has heart and is tough, but I am talking about the kind of grit that can win fights. Cotto has the habit of folding a bit when the going gets tough (imo) and it begins to cost him rounds he could otherwise win. That being said, Cotto is one hell of a fighter and one of the best of that era.
Father Trinidads wraps increased the hardness of the punch : Fact. Trinidads wraps cant be compared to Margaritos, what Marg did (if true) is on a whole different level. But to deny Trinidads wraps werent wrapped in a way that allowed for a harder punch is just speaking without knowing the facts. Trinidads own father even says, that the way they made him rewrap his hands for the Hopkins fight (the way they are suppossed to be wrapped) takes away from the punch. People can deny it all they want, but they just look dumb to those who actually know. If you want to claim otherwise, youd be arguing with Trinidads very corner There is a reason they made him re-wrap his hands.
He never had the ability(physically or technically) to be a great fighter. A good fighter on his best days though, i think he had a great career for the modest natural talent he possessed.
Cotto had a great career. Is he in the Ali, SRL realm, no? But he is a no doubt first ballot Hall of Famer who ran the gauntlet of the toughest fighters in his era.
Nothing, he just isn't great. There is nothing about him that is great. He's good, real good in some cases but not great.:bbb
I'll keep it simple by saying he wasn't athletically gifted. It's romantic to believe that training hard and working on boxing technique can trump all, but nearly all the great fighters are athletic. Cotto has good power but no one punch KO power. He's not fast, and his stamina is lacking. Some of the slowest reflexes I seen. Good but far from iron chin. He outright got the short straw in other physical departments. Cotto's best punch is the jab, but he's stocky with short arms. His skin cuts easy.
Cotto's face never really swelled up bad until after the 1st Margarito fight, Just look at his after 300 punches with Mosley. Almost not a scratch, these days he bruise up after a round
BULL****... The issue was TAPE ON SKIN... If you do your HW, BOTH Manny AND Margarito agreed to wrap their hands this way when they fought. NON of them had TITO smash power. **** outta here son. I bet you think Hopkins did not headbutt Tito 27 times in their fight too right? "Takes away from the punch" meaning they made sure Tito's wraps were soft as ****in PILLOWS. Do you REALLY think Tito's father would say "they did not let us cheat..." I am guessing your I.Q. is around 84?
