I think Pacquiao's best bet is to fight Cotto like he fought De La Hoya. Dart in, throw punches, dart back out. Move, move, move. Don't let Cotto trap him on the ropes, because those body shots are brutal. Don't get too close to Cotto, and definitely DO NOT exchange punches with him.

I'm watching the De La Hoya fight now, and as wilted as Oscar supposedly was, he did have some minor success at times, especially in the 5th round. Pacquiao can't let Cotto have a moments of success like that.

"What does it feel like being in with a guy who is constantly beating you to the punch?"

"Manny is not getting careless with the fact that he is doing this."

" Manny is fighting far more technical and intelligent than I expected."

Those are some of the comments Merchant, and Lampley made at various points during the fight. Those comments are perfect examples of what he is going to have to do against Cotto.

Yeah the 1st rnd. will be a feeling out round, after someone lands flush they are gonna go to town on each other. Depending if Cotto fights as the agressor, Pac has to stay on his toes.

I agree, but I'm pretty sure we can expect Pacquiao to try and catch Cotto coming in too like he did to Hatton. When Miguel sets in to dig body punches expect Pac to throw a left upper followed by a right hook and straight left. I think Pac will bring a mix of what he did with Oscar and what he did to Hatton, and that may be one of the reasons why he has bulked up well at 150lbs.

    Edit: Mannys strategy:

Make Cotto expand his energy. Keep the energy and work rate way up from the beginning, but don't commit to any exchanges for the beginning, until it is safe late in the fight if Cotto fatigues. Throw to the body and use the right hook to distract and setup the left to the body, then finish over the top. Use faints, throw quick combinations in the beginning, harden up the punches as the fight goes on. Make Cotto work, work, work by using lots of footwork, in hopes of him tiring out later in the fight. If it becomes safe later in the fight, do what you do best.

    this is Cotto's strategy.
I think Cotto's best weapon to use against Pacquiao is the jab from the outaside, timing Pacquiao coming in, the similar to how Oscar did against Manny the few times he did throw it, but also to follow up with quick combinations as Pacquiao goes backwards, like JMM did against him in both fights. JMMs success came when he would counter and hit Pacquiao going backwards. JMM failed due to workrate at times, getting knocked down, and inability to stop Pacquiao from throwing the left.

What Cotto MUST NOT DO is lay back on the ropes and coast, like what he did later in the Mosely and some other fights when he starts fatiguing, as this can give room to let Manny get into his game. He cannot let Manny get into his in and out rhythm to where he starts firing punches from all sorts of places. If you see what happen to Oscar post round three, whe he stopped throwin punches, he simply became a punching bag. Nacho was right on when he said "you must make sure you dont go in without throwin punches and be the last one to finish with combinations, dont let him hit you without hitting back". Cotto will have to keep his activity up, because Pacquiao can fight 3 minutes a round, 12 rounds a fight if he's on his rhythm and given the opportunity to throw that many punches (ref Diaz fight)

He should use the same strategy he used against Oscar.

This isn't intended as a shot at you, but I don't get this whole 'feeling out round' stuff. Why give the first round or two away merely studying your opponent? If you do your homework and get quality replicative sparring, there's no need.

that cat and mouse **** want work in this fight, cotto has been hit harder by stronger punchers then manny.mosley, clottey and judah ! none of those guys are slow either, the one that comes the closes to manny speed is judah.i think cotto will catch manny in exchanges, i dont think manny will land as freely as most people think either.i mean he will land his shots but not BEFORE or AFTER geting back something in return, maybe not 10 out of 10 times but more like 7 or 8.wich is enough to stop manny i think.

Pray that Cotto overtrained or is totally shot. If not, then he has no chance in winning.
