Floyd Mayweather Jr. has to be the most versatile boxer in the game today. Fighters like Andre Ward, Bernard Hopkins and Cotto come close behind, but Floyd takes the cake on this one. Everybody knows about his ability to fight on the outside and he's even been classified as a "runner" because of it and his shoulder roll defense, but he can bang in the inside also and stalk his opponent and use different tools to win Here's an old fight where he exhitibts his inside fighting and his boxing ability. Unfortunately he breaks his hand inthe 6th round and this is why you probably don't see Floyd fighting as agressive anymore [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe7ZaVdXMms&feature=related[/ame] It isn't just he can fight in the inside, but how effective he is when he's there. He takes little damage and dishes out plenty of it and he beats fighters that are known for their inside fighting in the inside and clinches like Hatton. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrYj8iA1USM&feature=related[/ame] Then of course we see high guard Mayweather the pressure fighter who walks his opponent down like Judah and Mosley. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSVDZ2d_EQs&feature=related[/ame] Then you have your shoulder roll, potshot Floyd boxing off the back foot putting on a boxing clinic [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4BE5cg9LvM&feature=related[/ame] Here's my question though, which style do you think Floyd is best in? :think
Technically floyd is floyd and he fights one way, but its just he adjusts differently to different fighters using his various defensive techniques, He's the complete fighter
My preferred style depends on who he is fighting, but out of your options i'd choose the high guard. That right cross-left hook-right cross is a thing of beauty!
I used to believe that until I went to one of his open workouts before the Sharmba Mitchell fight. He fights pretty much one way in actual bouts. measuring the opponent with disciplinary defense tecniques. But in the gym he just went buck wild on his sparring partner. His sparring partner couldn't get outta the way fast enough. floydie just let go a barrage of non-stop punches that just kept coming for 2 of 3minutes in the round, it was mad crazy. i had no idea he could do that!
I remember watchin a video of one of his workouts on youtube doing sit-ups into a full stand with 10-12kg weights in his hands throwing punches as he came up..........ridiculous
Damn! I heard Larry Merchant say once that he spars 10-15 minutes rounds also with rotating sparring partners. Also I think it was on 24/7 or maybe a boxing site that when they said he does his mitt drill for 40 minutes straight and he only takes 10 second breaks to get water during training and he'll go straight from the mitts to the bag while his whole workout would last for 3 hours.
I can't really say what style is best for him, because it depends on whom he is facing. I guess I'll go with pocket.
not the one where he goes into a shell of "retirement" every year or so and robs us of good fights, and wastes his time getting into **** and stopping fights happening.
Hmm, so actual hard work is how Floyd remains a physical phenom in the ring, but manny trains for like 5 hrs at a time to attain his peak condition and he's gotta be on PED's.:nono Boxing fans can be convinced of anything.
O damn I guess I should stop accusing Manny of being on PEDs. Wait a second, I never did:tong I think he new found ability comes from his conditioning with Alex Arize
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Azvme3RIUsA[/ame] That's a sparring session, and he lets his hands go in that one. Everyone's who had the chance to witness of his actual camps, not some ***** AZZ media day, said his training is STUPID CRAZY.
