I'm still a begginner 8-10months but as I get better my coach is increasing speed of the padwork or adding more things to do. In a way it sort of resembles a sparring match, random times he'll throw a jab i have to step back parry, come back with a combo or a jab. Randomly throw hooks, or start pressuring me into the ropes and i'd have to duck under a hook or a straight. Things like that, there are much more but thats pretty much the idea, practicing movement, defence not just attacking and combo fluidity. right now though i've been getting much better and hes starting throw like a sparring match but tagging lightly. I did run into a jab though :-( he told me to start wearing a mouthguard. i'd really like to here from some coaches on this forum, i know brown bomber teaches guys
Ive had coaches that beat the **** out of me with pads before, its not helpful. A tap to remind you to keep your hands up is fine but anything more than that impedes learning for me.
the difference is, my coach tries to throw from the outside so a simple back step and a light parry does the job. Iuno why i did a dumb move to randomly step and ran into it. I was lucky it was a tap.
Depending on the standard of boxer,,but mostly if I'm teaching slips with counter punch's i will use a 16oz glove for my jab hand & a pad for the right hand next to my chin witch will make sure all Punch's from boxer are straight to the same target ,,i will also push & lean him back on the ropes this to takes energy away from the boxer trying to make it as realistic as possible for the fighter the main thing for me before i teach the boxer anything ,i will explain the reason for doing it & then ask him if he understands what Ive said ,,(if not i take of the glove & hit him till he understands ,,,only joking)
