First, he could start by asking himself if he still wants to fight. He is young and rich so its not a neccesity. He doesnt seem hungry anymore to me and its seemed that way for some time. If so, he needs to scrap Emanuel Stewart. I know he is one of the best in the game, blah blah, but he is wrong for JT for whatever reason. Finally, he needs to keep his damm left hand up. He has been doing this drunken bob forever with his left hand down and I just dont get it. He got caught just like this last night, giving up his height, carrying his left hand by his hips, leaving his chin out for Pavlik to come in and bam its good night. If he corrects this, he is right back in champion contenter mode and could beat Pavlik. If not, he is going to stay at the level he is at while Pavlik continues to improve.
first of all he gotta learn not to punch with a puncher. cause that stuff is doubassed. but even if he jabs and moves more, i still think pavlik is too much for him. pavlik is not just your average puncher. he is a very good boxer himself with very underrated speed. so in a rematch, even with an improved taylor, i still see pavlik winning again. tko 10 looks right.
I agree with this. I think that this fight will bring him back to basics. He skated by so long on just athletic ablity and his game was flawed. If he keeps that hand up and stops backing up into the God damned corner. Taylor will be back to avenge this loss. He just got caught with a good shot.
stay away from Pavlik, theres alot of options there for him, rematch Winky, go after one of the other middleweight champions, move up to super middle wait for kessler/calzaghe to fight and go after the belt or belts that the winner drops after winning
people need to realize that jt is as good as hes gone get, he got a pass in the 2 bhop fights cause bhop makes anyone look bad and then another pass in the winky fight cause it was winky. but the ouma and spinks fight was a damn shame and by this time he had been with manny a while, get it together guys and just accpect jt is as good as hes going to get.if he cant get it right by now then he never will. hopes were to high for him, and the gits he got did not make it eaiser for him in the long run.only thing i can say now is maybe it will take him losing by ko to get it all the wya together. if he cant after this loss, then jt is as good as hes going to get point blank.
Taylor can't adjust. I thought we already knew this from the Ouma and Spinks fights. You are right that he needs to replace Manny. He needs a trainer who is going to sharpen his offense and get him back to an offensive strategy. He could be somewhat better as a pure offensive fighter. But I'm not honestly sure how far he'd go. He has stamina issues which isn't very good for that style. If he loosened up some, stopped the weights and just worked on quantity with some quality mixed in he could do very well.
Bad suggestions. Taylor has improved his punches and punch speed dramatically under Steward. He was clearly winning that fight but simply got caught by a big shot. This can happen at anytime in boxing. It is the nature of the sport. He also nearly had Pavlik out and was using his hand speed advantage to control the bulk of the fight. People think just because Taylor backed up at times, Pavlik was somehow winning the fight. This is simply not true. Taylor landed far more telling and clean shots until Pavlik hit him with the big right. A guy knocks the opponent all over the ring and is clearly winning the fight but ends of getting caught and people say he should avoid the guy. Makes no sense whatsoever. Taylor is likely to win the rematch folks.
It wasn't one shot that did it. It was several right hands. The one punch JT can't avoid if his life depended on it. Steward is making him out to be a boxer, keeping him at bay waiting for counters. That's a bad mix with a guy who can't avoid right hands. And if you think he took a beating this time, the rematch will be worse. No doubt Pavlik will be ready for that left hook the second time around.
He may well do. You certainly can't dimiss the fact that he could/can win. A lot of posters on here are acting like KP has JT's number....which is utter bollocks.
I think he should probably move up to 168. Maybe he could fight a so-so opponent, maybe his second fight back could be Corridgan should Corrdigan win the contender. His third fight maybe Allen Green if Green would want to move back up to super middleweight or maybe he could fight Jeff Lacy or Edison Miranda for his third fight back. If he wins that fight for the Super Middleweight title.
I think Taylors style is bad for Steward. I think he has tamed a lion. I think the problem with Steward is that he tends to make his boxers the way he thinks they should fight based on his preference, not necessarily what suits them. He usually pretty straight forward--jab, jab, right, clinch on inside. I thought that although they don't mix to great, he would be able to help JT improve enough & eliminate some of his bad habits, but it hasnt happen. JT is not the type of fighter that just does exactly picture perfect as u tell him. He seems to be a very stubborn fighter in the ring and needs someone that will work with his style that he has, not try to change it. I wonder if someone like Freddy Roach would be suited for someone like Taylor. Freddy worked with guys with different styles: From James Toney to Manny Pac, to De la Hoya.
Lets face it. Taylor is ****ed. Lousy chumpion. No chin. Cant go the distance against a real fighter. He will have his work cut out trying to beat someone in the top 10. Oh --- I forgot, Judges ---
Taylor looked good, he just needs to employ consistent head movement. He can beat Pavlik, and showed that he can. He should try once more to make 160 to regain his title.
