Basically it. He also pulled his head back onto his center line after punching, which was an easy counter opportunity for Crawford. Also, Spence usually drags his back leg behind him when he steps in with his jab. Crawford on the other hand would usually be closer in range for his own jab, take smaller steps when jabbing, and would jab off of the back foot. So in contrast, he would not leave his back foot behind him. Thus he had far better balance and positioning to work off of. Spence usually has to reset himself after jabbing. And when it comes to parrying... oh boy does Spence overreach. This is so damn evident in the Crawford fight as in the early rounds they both parried each others jabs rather effectively. Yet Spence´s back hand was way out in front of him, while Crawford´s was much closer to his face. God, I hope they make Fundora vs Spence! Fundora would murder him.
Base was terrible. His legs were too far apart so he had to overreach to close distance. He always lacked head movement and would rely on his guard to block punches. Crawford made him pay the price for that. Zero feints from Spence. He made himself extremely easy to time because of that. He didn't vary his attacks. Every single attack started off with a jab. Crawford started to time his jab because of that. Poor defensive responsibility. Whenever he missed he left himself completely open for counters. Took too long to get back into a defensive position and Crawford made him pay again.
Bud just has his number. I also think Spence was a little off, but like he said himself, he’s felt like that before and could usually get himself going. Spence has been grossly underrated since that loss, and with it Buds win over him. He was a dominant force at a competitive weight class for several years. As far as technical stuff goes others have mentioned some good ones. One that comes to mind for me is stepping way too far / heavy with his jab - and also ALWAYS having to land the jab before doing anything else / lack of feints or really, just anything different once the usual wasn’t working.
