What training techniques has Wilder used to improve his chin? In his 11th pro fight he hit the canvas, but didn't go down against King Kong in his 40th fight.

King Kong is off the roids, and is in such poor health that they only medically cleared him to fight THE DAY BEFORE the fight. He has nothing left, or else Deontay would not have agreed to fight him.

He is part of the fraud train, which continues to roll on down the track.

As far as I know there is very little which can be done to improve a glass chin other than improve one's defense skills and alter one's style where necessary e.g. Wlad.

It is my understanding that an iron chin is a genetic gift which you are either born with or born without.

As for Deontay not hitting the canvas in his bout with Ortiz I think it's possible that adrenaline alone kept him on his feet, although I think it's more likely that he was simply hit harder in his 11th pro fight and/or the punch which sent him down connected at a more significant angle than anything Ortiz hit him with.

While often said, this is nonsense. Chin is the most difficult thing to improve, but anything is improvable.

    1) Ray Mercer's great chin was built by strapping weights to his head and doing neck pull-ups.

    2) Improving the legs helps to take a punch. Hearns was able to withstand Leonard's assaults the second time out because he specifically trained the legs. It is also why kickboxers often have good beards.

    3) Adding weight can help to take a punch--look at Ali and Floyd Patterson, whose chins dramatically improved later in the careers.

    4) The old time fighters, like Jack Dempsey, used to chew raw tree sap to build up the jaw muscles.

I am sure there are a lot more.

In his 11th pro fight he hit the canvas.....
But it wasn't from a shot, he was trying to avoid the shot and lost balance - it never landed.

It's the ease of which he is hit, rather than the fact he is 'chinny', that he is always in danger.

All HW's are 'chinny' if hit with a clean shot from another HW.

Avoiding top fighters is his main technique.

Strengthening his neck would help, but he seems to have as much of a pencil neck as he always had.

Working on his defence will be the best way to protect that chin. Not leaving his chin in the air would help, perhaps developing some kind of guard in case an opponent does get inside his long arms he then has something to protect that chin.

In some video before the Ortiz fight he had rubber bands in his mouth. Deontay is invincible now.

I don't think he improved his chin as punch resistance has never been a big problem for him. He improved his balance and that has prevented him looking as shaky or being caught out of position. Mark Breland was an excellent boxer and is a perfect trainer for Deontay. We should all be giving him much more respect for the improvements he has made since he started working with Deontay.

Here's the correct answer. Wilder's glass jaw will be obliterated as soon as he faces a real top HW who isn't old, overrated or sick - or all three as in the case of Stiverne!

Wilder already has a good chin, so there is nothing to improve.

Taking a punch is about how will the force of the punch be absorbed. Taller lean fighters will not absorb it as much as thicker fighters. Which is why Hagler and even Chavez took a good punch. I cannot think of anything which can help a chin if it is not great. Neck exercises? I think it is also something to do with concentration. Many fighters who punch recklessly and then get hit are hurt more than a fighter who is tensed up when they are hit because they tense up as they are hit so it absorbs throughout the body. I think Wilder has to get more experienced and learn how to set up his punches and land without leaving himself open. And that takes experience. Hearns was a tall lean fighter but he was an experienced amateur before he turned professional so he knew how to jab and land his punches off the jab, although he liked to be reckless, that was more his choice. He was experienced when he became a professional and Wilder is not.. So Wilder better learn the whole game and stay active and fight as many guys as he can to get that experience.. Learn to get the punch opportunities without leaving himself open. I am one of those who thought his fight against Ortiz showed he cannot be hit much with Joshua or he is getting knocked out. Joshua can take Wilder's puncher better than Wilder can take Joshua's punch, just because Joshua is bigger. I think Wilder has better one punch power, but all that means is he better get him out early or Joshua will stop him. Wilder's punch resistance is not great.

    Gaining weight improves chin.

Also having your feet planted when tsking the shot.

Or roll with the punch or stepping in taking it halfway absorbing the force but avoiding the snap at the same time.

Dont stand in the "snaping range" so to speak

A solid guard also helps alot.
