I should imagine that was one of the first WBA fights to happen on these shores then as, before Warren came in, the BBBofC only sanctioned WBC fights.

The IBF was on the line that night as well. They were the last of the three sanctioning bodies to yield to the scrapping of 15 rounders.

    Yeah

I'm not sure if that was vacate or not

I know Curry was the WBA Champ not sure if he was actually the IBF champ

It might of been vacant but yes I seen the fight listed as a WBA / IBF title fight

The IBF were smart when they started out and 'gave' their belt to the dominant champs ie Hagler, Holmes and Curry didn't they?

Don't quote me on this but I think Curry, Larry Holmes and Marvin Hagler were given their IBF belts without a fight when the organization started.

As a point of note (and this is something I only learned recently), the IBF were originally going to strip the winner of the Tyson/Spinks fight because it wasn't a 15 rounder. It was only when Larry Hazzard stepped in and smoothed things over that they finally changed their rules. Back then the sanctioning bodies were seen as far more important. Can you imagine if something like that happened now? The belt would just be dropped immediately.

    How times have changed.

I think boxing could be a lot greater sport than it actually is, if it simplified itself.

Having been raised in rugby and cricket, how each sport tends to govern itself could be a lesson to boxing.

Its how it was in the "old days", thats why I like the history side of boxing ("the man who beat the man)" and support what the The Ring is doing with its belts despite its faults.

The Ring is the way forward. Have you seen the most recent issue? DLH gets no preferential treatment this issue believe me.

I'm not sure on Ring belts.

I posted on the general forum that they ought to recognise a linear claimant.... and award it to them.

Surely something could be done then with HBO/Showtime etc.... just don't let the likes of Jose Sillyman to the weigh-ins etc and don't pay the fees.
