Picked Maidana in this one. Ortiz can come back though, a loss is not the end despite the way fans react to it.
It isn't the fans so much- it's the way HE reacted at the end of the fight. If he still wants it, it's there for him. It'll be interesting to see what he does next.
He got beat up in there. He fought the wrong gameplan entirely. 'Quitting' aside, he was about to get knocked out. He went down twice and Maidana was teeing off on him before they consulted the doctor. He could come back from it, but he's going to have to find a little more heart and tactical discipline. The latter is possible, the former can not be manufactured.
Yeh but it's the same with every defeat, guy goes from Sugar Ray to butterbean in 1 night. It was a bit worrying when you saw him talking afterwards but he's just a kid and he has the ability, he was one of the hottest prospects in the world and now people question if he will ever make it, I have a bit more faith than that.
Prehaps some one should have told him there was a possibility of him getting punched when he was signing his fat contract with GBP??? Questions will be asked of the boy everytime he gets in the ring going forward. I hope he pulls himself together. maybe he needs a break and get away. He needs to ask himself if he really wants it.
Just watched it. Damn!! What a fight!!! OMG I agree with Max Kellerman for once!!!! "But in boxing to be great more is required of you than any other sport, more is required of you than is reasonable." Now that is a quality quote from bug-eyed Max. I don't think Ortiz lost the fight but rather Maidana won it (if you catch my drift). That looping right hand was landing all night long.
It was a cracking fight, but Ortiz had the weaker chin; weaker punch; weaker heart. Despite hitting the canvas numerous times, Maidana was only really hurt once or twice; Ortiz was badly hurt a lot He was so easy to hit it was untrue, and he clearly doesn't have the chin to fight that way Getting badly knocked down moments after flooring your opponent in round one is naive in the extreme The interpreter before the start of the last round was saying 'Vic, I'm going to pull you out; Vic, give me a response' and Ortiz just looked vacant, he was done at that point I think, I started to worry he was in a real bad way and was surprised he came out
the record I have seen say round 1, and your right it is completley different its much much harder to KO someone in the amateurs so its even more impressive. Khan was 16 at the time
Here's the post fight interview with big Max if anyone switched over like me before the interviews were done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiLrHSMuYCs Hmmm... I wonder if he'll be back.
I read that on the main forum, too. Do you think it was just a bit of false bravado after probably getting it backstage from the GBP team, though? I don't know- I will defo like to see the rematch though!:good
