On the homepage of Yahoo Sports, they have a headline titled "Boxing Controversy?" http://sports.yahoo.com/ On the page where sports writers gave their scores. 4 had it for Margarito, 3 had it for Williams, and 4 had it a draw. http://sports.yahoo.com/box/blog/box_experts;_ylt=AnPGzOo3MtFmD7B_UqJsQ8o5nYcB I'm not quite sure what fight they are watching, but it is bad for the sport when this idiot writer (Kevin Iole) comes out and cries "controversy" or "robbery" when Paul Williams clearly outclassed and outworked the champion. Williams took the title away from Margarito and for this writer to score it 8-4 for Margarito...atsch I'm not sure what fight Steve Kim and Doug Fischer were watching either.
crow dont taste so good to some. Iole and those a$$ clowns over at that pay site all picked Tony to win easy.
steve kim and doug fischer are margaritos worst nuthuggers they predicted an easy tko for mrgo and couldnt handle him getting beat pair of ***gots
You would have to be a complete tool to have Margo winning that fight, I mean jesus christ I dont think he won a round untill what the 6th maybe as late as the 7th. Williams won what 6 of the first 7 rounds convicingly and the 12th convincingly so at the VERY least givin Margo the benefit of the doubt you have a 7-5 fight
You are absolutely right about this. Calling a decision "controversial" when it's not only further taints the image of the fight game. Iole should know better.
This plays right into the hands of Arum.Look for his announcement of Margo vs Cotto in the next few weeks. To be fair I think that Margo deserves it after his title reign and it will be much more entertaining than a Cotto-Williams track meet.:thumbsup
i cant believe I used to go to maxboxing. **** em. They helped create this Margo "is sooooo avoided" **** and then they cry when he loses. Pathetic
looks like the fans are clearly more knowledgeable...check out the reader comments: http://sports.yahoo.com/box/blog/bo...-on-Margarito-Williams?urn=box,39255#comments # Draw? Thank god these guys aren't judges, damn... Posted by fiction2040 on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:13 am EDTReport Abuse # 2 maxboxing.com just lost cred. Posted by syamauchi5 on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:13 am EDTReport Abuse # 3 paul williams outclassed him.. how can margarito say he was blocking his punches? if gettin hit in the face is blocking then ok. Posted by creeptownrecords on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:16 am EDTReport Abuse # 4 what fight did these people watch. paul clearly won a hard fought fight. Posted by This content is protected on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:20 am EDTReport Abuse # 5 Williams was the clear winner in my book. He controlled the entire fight. Posted by kentuckyfan_us on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:24 am EDTReport Abuse # 6 It seems to me more and more "experts" are A) either watching a totally different fight then everyone else or B) don't want anyone but the champions to ever win. Paul clearly did what boxing used to be about. Outworked and out classed the champion. And on a sad note a fine boxer finally hangs up his gloves Gatti. Long overdue and sad to see the fight tonight taking nothing away from Gomez at all Gatti should not have been in the ring Posted by wiccian_vampire_legend on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:27 am EDTReport Abuse # 7 Ok, I know not to take Kevin Lole for his word anymore. Paul won this fight at least 8 rounds to 4, if not 9-3. Posted by higgyk on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:28 am EDTReport Abuse # 8 are these people serious...williams won despite 3 tough rounds late in the fight. to give margarito more than 4 rounds is questionable, to give him any more than 5 rounds should excuse that judge from judging boxing ever again Posted by daforrds on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:28 am EDTReport Abuse # 9 I mean Williams was the clear winner by 2 to 4 rounds at least! He never stopped jabbing and he brought the fight to his opponent all night. Sometimes you have to wonder if these guys have a bias or something?? Posted by mrhoss4u on Sunday, Jul 15, 2007 12:28 am EDTReport Abuse # 10 LOL... Kevin somehow managed to find 3 other people who thought Margarito won.
No **** these guys are just as bad as Margo's nuthugging fans here on this fight. Paul Da Troof Williams won that fight easily.
I think a draw would have been somewhat controversial..a win for Margorito would have been downright robbery.
wiliams was the clear winner... even if he was hitting nothing but gloves, he was the busier fighter all night. Hell that is a great plan overwhelm the judges and my opponent with punches. That's the science of boxing, figuring out how to beat your opponent.
Yeah but watch how thier view softens now that fan reactions to their score cards are coming in totally against them.
ain't nothing you can do now it's over but margo needs cotto and then the world will see.... he is a solid gate keeper
8-4 Williams at the VERY least you could make a case for 7-5 but in my book Williams clearly won. Some of those sports writers had it 8-4 Margo????
What a joke, I am british and have no reason to care who won last night as long as it was a good fight, I saw a good fight, one in which Williams out worked and moved better than Margo, Williams fought like the champ he now is, end of.
