I don't know if its just me but this guy thinks he is some wise guy because wears shades 24/7 as if he's stevie wonder's forgottn brother. Take those shades off and look people in the eye This guy's arrogance really grates me. he has argued with journalists and refused to anwer standard questions Has blamed roach for khan losing even though hunter hasn't put khan forward against any puncher. Just because Ward who was already world class was under his tutelage, he thinks he's some great man filled with wisdom and struts around and talks as if he is some west coast black jesus. You didn't make Ward, Ward made you, you fck. How about Hunter stops telling his fighters that they are too good to fight evenly matched opponents, stop telling his fighters bs about how they are the greatest.
Put Khan in there with Hunter against the same fighters he fought with Roach and the result would be the same. His Chin is awful and he has no Ring IQ. None of this has changed under Hunter the only thing that has changed is Khan is fighting limited feather fisted competition. What was Roach's advice when Khan left him? "Keep him away from punchers" and that is EXACTLY what Hunter has done so it seems as if Roach should deserve all the credit.
He's a fraud that's why I'm mad. This guy was drumming it into khan's head that Roache's parkinson's was to blame for why he khan couldn't take a punch. If I was interviewing him, I'd take those glasses off his face myself and tell him he'd get them back once it's finished. He's overrated, so is his stable and it's just a matter of time before all his fighters backs are against the wall and have to face either GGG, with ward or brook with khan and they will expose his non existent fcking gameplan.
I think Hunter is overrated. I've been in boxing my entire life and know many trainers. Great ones, horrible ones, and everything in between. All are unique, but there are "types." One of these types is a trainer who thinks he knows everything about everything, and when he speaks, he tries to sound full of wisdom. His fighters are convinced he is a boxing messiah and can only speak truth, and as a result his reputation reflects that. But, this type of trainer is masking the same bull**** and narcissism of a someone who builds an empire by running a ponzi scheme. Sure, he has business smarts, but his success is built on the beliefs of those who don't do their own research. Hunter is a decent trainer, a faith based trainer. Of course the SOG believes in him. Of course a fighter with confidence issues like Kahn believes in him. He needs the to believe his trainer has more wisdom than any other. But if you cut through the bull****, there is nothing distinctively special about Virgil Hunter.
:deal This is what I'm saying, the guy is a professional fraudster The whole ''i'm too cool to take off my sunglases' is another prop he uses to fool the naive into believing he knows more than he actually does.
Agree with everything you said. I've been saying it for a long time now, this guy is the most obnoxious person in boxing. I really can't stand this guy.
Hunter has improved Khan with the clinching i think I hate clinching so I enjoy watching Khan less now but hes improved i think
He's improved more than just with clinching. His footwork is much much better. It has some intelligence behind it. His ring control and ability to control fighters has improved 10 fold. He didn't know how to control the ring or opponents AT ALL before... Khan has a new problem he has to deal with since hitting 28 years old and moving to WW and that is conditioing. He looked awfull & weak against Diaz & Molina. He showed signs of strength against Collazo but didn't finish strong. Alexander he looked much better where he needs to be physically.
You can't judge Diaz and Molina as was 2 fights in and tony Brady wasn't doing his conditioning work then He has better foot work and defensive skills now Also more of a solid fighter Tbh he schooled Alexander
