Plenty people watched Ward dismantle Froch and Kessler, and each fight was much more enjoyable than Froch-Grove, Froch-Kessler, or watching all those other English bums on Sky. :yep As fight go; Ward-Froch > Calzaghe-Kessler
Last I heard he was trying to get out of Goosen, what exactly is holding that legal battle up buy the best legal team money can buy do something Ward
I'm not sure exactly how long Ward's contract with Goosen is. He signed a 9 year contract in 2004 and his suit claimed that it violate California labot laws which limit contracts to 7 years, the same as ODLH's contract with TR which Oscar had repealed using the same argument. Ward had contract extensions in 2009 and 2011, so I'm not sure if the contract were to run its course, when exactly Ward would be free from Goosen Tutor. I think the contract covers Ward's next 4 fights. Goosen's co-promoter involved with Ward's next 4 fights is also suing Goosen for $1M for breach of contract.
here is this excerpt on what hes saying Obviously, Jim, just to respect the process, and just because its ongoing, there are certain aspects of it that I cant talk about. But what I can say is this, you know, I simply want my co-promoter, Antonio Leonard, who has been my co-promoter since 2008 when he bought out Square Ring, Roy Jones company, up until this point, said Ward, who had requested an arbitration hearing in an attempt to release him from the contract with Goossen. I want Antonio Leonard, and my trusted advisor and my manager, who, frankly, Ive known long before I ever met Dan Goossen, to be at the negotiating table and in the rooms talking to the networks and helping to negotiate my fights. I mean, this is the way that I want these things to be done, and Im the captain of my ship, and Im the boss of my team. I am the guy thats leading the charge, and as long as everybody understands that and respects that, then we can move forward with a fight in September. But if we dont have an understanding, which it looks like we dont right now, then we have a major problem. It sounds like he wants a similar situation to Mayweather where he (in this case Ward) makes the call and Leonard & Prince figure it out similar to what Haymon & Ellerbe does for Floyd's camp I guess he would partner with Top Rank much like Floyd does with Goldenboy
To each his own. You belong to an infinitisimal minority. You should know that since Ward made less money beating drained p4p star Glass Jawson, than Kessler made against Allan Green. I bet you cant wait untill Ward squares off against Kashtonov in a jOakland walmart with 25 familymembers in attendance.
In a way Ward "won the battle and lost the war", he beat all the Euro champs, making them come to his hometown/California. The Euro champs went back to Europe and starting fighting each other, making tons of money, while Ward does HBO fight commentary. Hell even Authur Abraham, who is so far over the hill he lives in a valley, made a boat load of money last weekend. Bute almost gets killed by Froch, then scores a big fight back home. And what does Ward do.............sues Goosen and loses.:dead
Nothing worst than an elite fighter wasting his prime away. We've seen it too many times. A guy of Ward's talent should be fighting at least 3 times a year. People bag on GGG for fighting guys like Andy Lee, but at least he's trying to keep himself busy while looking for big fights. Ward needs to do the same. He need stay busy fights if he can't get the big ones. I don't know the specific details of the lawsuit, but I know he's trying to leverage California Labor Code to get out of his contract with Goosen. It may also the reason he's staging fights in Oakland so he can sue Goosen under California law. He's wasting his time if he keeps this up.
Theyre being pushed as the Boogey Men in their divisions. Golovkins in the middleweight division, and Stevenson and Kovalev in the light heavyweight division, said Ward, who is THE RINGs No. 2-rated fighter, pound-for-pound, behind RING 147- and 154-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. I dont see a win over either one of those guys right now catapulting me past the Floyd Mayweathers or something like that."
Yeah, its just sad to see his prime just disappearing before our eyes. He should be fighting 3-4 times a year right now like Golovkin. If he can't land a mega-fight right now, just start lining up guys like DeGale, Steiglitz, Bute, Anthony Dirrell, Periban, Alvarez, Gonzalez, Oosthuzien, etc, and start fighting every few months. That's how you build a following and start gaining popularity. But unfortunately Ward seems to think that the only reason he isn't a star yet is because Goosen is failing in his job as a promoter. We don't know the true extent of their issues, but as a big Ward fan I just wish he would put it aside for a few years and let us see him fight while he is in his prime.
