I think the problem with Ward is that he think he's as big as Mayweather or Pacquiao and he's not getting the kind of payday he's getting. The reality is that he doesn't fight enough and he lacks the marketing power of either of those guys. People forget about fighters if they don't fight often...and people will forget Ward. He fought twice in 2011, once in 2012, once in 2013 and we'd be lucky to see him fight once in 2014. That amounts to 5 fights in 4 years if he fights again this year. How can he expect big paydays when he don't build a base? People are excited about guys like Kovalev, Stevenson and GGG because they fought 4 times last year. That's how you get fans, by fighting often and winning impressively, not sitting around and suing your promoter.
People complaining that Ward's wasting prime need to realize he's perfected Bernard Hopkin's style of fighting. Ward could fight at the top level for the next 20 years still.
I'm a Ward fan but he's just throwing his prime away over stupid promoter crap. Get in the ring, fight out your contract, and then if you want to bolt, do it. It's not going to help you or your career in anyway trying to fight a legal battle against your promoter. Guys like Ward and Guerrero need to smarten up.
LOL, that's the way America is. Joke bands like Jefferson Airplane and Rolling Stones made 10x the money as others like Earth, Wind and Fire or Miles Davis. I guess pure artistry is always paid less than commercial hypes like Froch. Mayweather is the exception, and that's probably why he gets so much hate. :yep
Andre S.O.G. Ward ‏@andreward Mar 4 About to get some bowling in with the fam. I know it's just for fun, but I'm trying to win!! HaHa...forgive me Lord!! :conf
he has a style that will age well. he's not going anywhere anytime soon. there's really not much for him on the horizon. best to let the up-and-comers reveal themselves. groves was looking like a good match until froch grew a pair and decided to rematch him. bika is not a challenge. it would be nice for one of the dirrells to step up for the challenge.
It sucks from a fan's standpoint and also for his career and legacy. I'd rather him just fight anybody than sit idle for so long.
