This is a guy walks around at over 170 lbs, and he fights WelterWeights! Carl Froch and Kessler keep there weight around the 170's and fight at SuperMiddleWeight. Why does he feel the need to pick on smaller guys? Is he afraid to fight at SuperMiddleweight? Thats poor sportsmanship in my book.
atschHow about you respect that he makes 147 without looking drained instead of trying to discredit him for it. Thats like people that talk about P.Williams for being a tall WW when he barely makes 160. Just STFU!!
Poor sportsmanship for being able to make the weight he fights in?, if he doesn't belong there it will have a serious physical affect that will FORCE his team to send him up because that could damage a fighter physically. If he can make the weight then he's fine there.
Walking around weight and in the ring weight are two different things. As long as he makes the WW limit, he's a WW.
Nothing like picking up W's the old fashion way beating up smaller weaker opponents. He is pretty much the school yard bully of professional boxing.
Calzaghe used to walk around in the 190s he would say. its pretty common for fighters to walk around about 20-25lbs above their weigh-in weight. They stary cutting weight at the beginning of training camp and then come in on fight night around 15lbs above their weigh-in weight. That happens all the tim
SuperMiddleWeight is a bit extreme but if he loses to Pacquiao he should look to move up to 154 and give it a go, he's said himself he struggles for stamina because of the cut and his punching power has suffered too.
silly thread. loads of fighters walk around much larger then their fighting weight. its part of the game. if he can make weight then he`s a welterweight. he puts his body through training required to make weight and as far as I know has never had trouble at weigh in time.
Using the 170lbs figure is rather flawed, given that when he weighed in at 170 on fight night he was fully clothed and the fight was actually at 149 ..
How are they smaller?! He's been fighting at WW his whole career and making the weight. He can walk around at 200 if he wants as long as he weighs 147 at the weigh-in he's not doing anything wrong.
Rules are rules... if he makes the weight it's alright then. Personally, I don't care if the guy walks @ 250, if he can make 147 at weight time (the day b4 fight) he's a WW.
A lot of fighters cut weight, I will give you that. But let me just say this. Clottey takes it way too far! Here is a guy who comes into fights looking like a huge muscular guy that was chisled out of stone beating up little opponents. :-(
