Clottey wants to stay in the WW div. because that's where he can get the mega-money fights now. Fighting Pac, FMJ, SSM and Berto will give him his highest paydays. I don't see anything wrong w/ him staying in the WW div. Clottey is not getting any younger. He wants to fight only the big names and get as much money as he can.By staying put, he can achieve that.
Its all good saying this, but hes not wiping the floor with people now is he? If he was doing what Pac was doing and giving fighters serious beatdowns, then I might be able to somewhat acknowledge your arguement and say his size could be the factor why.
you're wrong. A guy Pac's size has no business fighting at WW, when you compare his size to the rest of the people in that division.
Here's a Calzaghe interview before his fight with Jeff Lacy where he says he walks around at about 190lbs http://www.sad doboxing.com/1860-joe-calzaghe-interview.html
your boy hatton walks around at 30 lbs. over the light welterweight limit. another brilliant thread from TerryESB...
But Hatton gets really fat between fights. Clottey is all muscle and cuts tremendous amounts of weight to beat up smaller opponents.
so your saying Hatton should fight at cruiserweight because he walks around at that weight? Flawed arguement to be fair.
dude, this is boxing. this kind of thing has been going on since the beginning. cutting that much weight when you're all muscle hurts a lot more than it helps. clottey is a very tight fighter and has obvious stamina issues. why do you think that is? the fact is, all the biggest fights are at WW. the guy's about to get the payday of a lifetime fighting pacquiao. he'd have to be a ****** to move up in weight.
