Why not? Loads have in the past.

Look at Khan bulking up two weight divisions to face a guy he's fully expected to get blown away by. No guts - no glory. Khan believes in himself and wants to accomplish greatness.

What has GGG ever done apart from avoid all challenges?

Khan has put triple bum boy to shame.

Khan jumped at the opportunity to get a last huge payday after Mayweather and Pac shunned him away, it has nothing to do with guts

Exactly. He could've fought anyone else and it would've made more sense but this fight...this fight is such a farce.

And as for GGG, I think it's more of the principle than whether he can make 155 or not. Can he make the weight? Sure. Is it good for boxing? No. This catch weight just doesn't make sense to me. First off, it's a MIDDLEWEIGHT belt. Next, Canelo claims he's not a true middleweight yet he weighs more that GGG on fight night. Has he ever fought without a cw?

I really hope the WBC strips him this time if he doesn't fight GGG...

Couldn't get Floyd . Couldn't get Manny . So went for the next biggest fight closest to his weight. Even if was two weight divisions higher.

This is a man chasing the best wanting to become the best. Striving to be the #1 P4P.

It has everything to do with guts , courage , bravery , self belief and the will to be great.

Greatness just isn't handed out like candy. You gotta take on challenges.

Something Ham Man wants no part of.

For the WBC to strip Alvarez GGG would have to try and actually enforce his mandatory and for the past 2/3 yrs he's been content to step aside.

That isn't a product of WBC corruption or Alvarez ducking
That is a lack of willingness by Golovkin to push for a big fight.

I expect him to do SOMETHING to make the big fights happen. You know there is one common denominator in all the GGG fights that have been touted but failed to materialise? Yes, you guessed.... Mr Tripe Hype himself. Everyone ducking him, each time? Highly unlikely...

    Wade is a mandatory.

    What other fights were there?

BJS has a fight lined up, Canelo asked for a voluntary.

The Wade fight is the last straw for many Golovkin fans. I will admit, that although its a mandatory fight, I just don't care for this fight. Its hard to get excited about it. I'll be at the fight because I love boxing.

Imagine if Canelo gets stripped and GGG has to fight Heiland for it. Now that would be a waste.

I figure if Canelo either gets stripped or vacates, and GGG gets the WBC belt, he will eventually fight Saunders for the WBO. Say he gets that fight. Then? Canelo can swerve GGG until 2018 no problem. Golovkin would be out of opponents at 160. Even if Demetrius Andrade moved up and fought GGG, it would be a good fight but ratings wise it would be the same. 1.5 million viewers on regular HBO. 15K attendance. Charlo bros would be good fights but again they are unknowns. Ward has moved up to 175. 168 is poor in star power. All GGG has in his 2 years left is Canelo.

How many greats of the past fought a unification at a CW, against the lineal belt holder, whilst also being the mandatory challenger?

He doesn't need to make concessions if he has the backing of the WBC.

If Canelo relinquishes the best he deserves to be ridiculed and disrespected.

    What makes you think that?

It appears to me he'd love to fight Canelo and BJS.

And just a point of order about the MW division. 160 is the MAXIMUM weight allowed at the time of the weigh-in. A boxer can come in at 140 if he was mad enough to do so. Setting a contractual limit of 155 does not disqualify a bout being a legitimate contest for a MW belt. Catchweights are just like re-hydration clauses - something included in the negotiations between two parties.

If GGG doesn't want to boil down those five pounds to fight Canelo, I guess that's his choice. But it seems to me he must have a very precise metabolism. Can't drop five pounds, won't put on eight. Funny that, for someone touted as the best P4P boxer in the world, he doesn't trust his skills too much does he? Everything is based around physical advantages when he and his management consider future opponents.

ATGs.... they don't think that way, they want to take down elite fighters and prove their credentials. GGG is a very, very good boxer but will never be a great because he won't take risks in matchmaking.

    Why aren't you criticising Canelo?

GG accepted their voluntary request, but I doubt very much he'll do it again. The WBC have said they have to negotiate after their next fights.
