Why do they insist on being so fictitious about Floyds career? Why dont they acknowledge that in basically only in his last 2 fights, did Floyd resort to purely defensive tactics, and in many previous he was more then willing to trade blows with his opponent? How can you argue with this and say Floyd has never been through the fire? That he's never stood toe to toe with another opponent?

I can understand the hating of his cockyness, even though its clearly very bad acting, but really, a runner? Unwilling to trade? In what reality?

Fighters respect Floyd Mayweather. Every fighter in the world has a great deal of respect for Floyd Mayweather, and if they're talking **** they're either envious or trying to get a payday. If you study the history of the craft, you know whether some ignorant fans hate him or not, he's going to provide more stylistic innovation to future generations of fighters than anyone of our generation. Let the haters hate, it's just envy.

Well once upon a time Ali claimed to be the greatest when nobody thought he was the greatest, a time when Joe Louis was considered the greatest and Ali said he would beat him. So who knows what the future holds.

I dont know if I believe it, but you gotta respect that he didnt just tell SRL that he would beat him out of bravado, he actually explained he had studied his technique and noticed he boxed flat footed. So you gotta give him respect for explaining to SRL face how he would beat him.

He already said it. In public. To his face. And broke down the fight real well too :good

Sugar Ray Leonard said it would be a very close fight. I tend to agree.

The same people who call Floyd a runner, are as annoying as the people who claim Ricky hugs too much.

Both have done it recently, but if you look back on their respective careers, you would see that neither style defines either fighter.

It's good to see some people are looking in the archives.... I'm a Hatton fan, but gotta respect, Floyd has obliterated his share of opponents with his fists.

Floyd didn't really run in the De La Hoya fight. He stood in the pocket and even went toe to toe in some cases. But he did fight defensively which is completely understandable against a big man and a big puncher like Oscar.

Against Baldomir, he did take off running in the second half of the fight. But I guess I give him a pass because...

    1) he did hurt his hand which prevented him from sitting down on his shots more when it was unnecessary

    2) Baldomir isn't exactly a guy you can KO

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Floyd Mayweather is a defensive counterpuncher. He doesn't make for fight of the years. When he has to fight or pressure, he does so. Floyd wins fights and has been by clear margins. If he doesn't have to take extra punishment, why should he?

I don't consider him a runner by any means (I'll save that term for Andre Dirrell and Cory Spinks).

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
Expect him to sit down on his punches more against Hatton because after 6 or 7 rounds, Hatton will probably be busted up or cut.

These big fights tend to polarize opinions as people support their fighter and demonize the other guy. No harm in it as long as people don't take all the hyperbole too seriously. You can't expect a real fan to not be a bit irrational now can you? Where is the fun in that?

What about the Castillo fights and the Victoriano Sosa fight at lightweight, the Diego Corrales, the Genaro Hernandez and the Carlos Hernandez fights at Super-Feather? I find amazing as one who dares to question if he didn't punch and move out ( meaning backpedalled, meaning exercised his legs around the ring area, meaning avoided staying in the zone or in the punch pocket) is to be understood as a Floyd hater... I AM NOT A MAYWEATHER HATER but he resorts mostly to defensive tactics even when he doesn't move as much and what's wrong with that? I'm getting pretty sick and fed up with all this masquerade and secular front against who dares to question Mayweather...
